Sounds like your fuel pump has died based on what you said.

My audi a3 would not start. I bypassed the fuel pump relay - direct from fuel pump to fuse box. My car starts fine now. Will this cause problems in the future if I leave it like that?

probably not as long as you used a heavy amperage wire to carry the current otherwise the wire will get very hot and may fuse out.

check to ensure that the fuse you are using is adequate for the current draw of the fuel pump. Place an ammeter in the power line to the fuel pump and read the amps drawn then rev it up and see if the current increases. Check the alternator for correct charge rate .

Where is the fuse for the fuel pump on a 94 grand marquis

There appear to be 2 fuses that can affect the fuel pump. #8 which provides power for the fuel pump, and #4 which provides power for the fuel pump relay. Both of these fuses are in the High Current fuse panel, which is located in the engine compartment near the battery.

The warning in the owners manual states: Always disconnect the battery before servicing high current fuses.Ford recommends that high current fuses be replaced by a qualified technician.

you have 2 electrical plugs...only one wire should have power(cant remember which one) if there is no power. then check the fuse if the fuse is ok...then check the relay by swapping relays they should be the same or at least work! if still doesn't work you might have to change the panel...where the fuses are!!!

The fuel lift pump relay is placed in the fuse box / relay plate fascia 2 for 2007 Audi A3 2.0 TDI. The fuse box / relay plate fascia 2 is placed above pedals behind a plastic cover. See pictures below:

The vehicle has one fuel pump and it is controlled by the rear electronic module .
Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html
Enter the vehicle info. Year , make , model an engine . Under system click on Engine , then under subsystem click on fuel controls . Then click the search button , then click the first blue link . The fourth diagram down . You will see fuel pump relay , rear control module , fuel pump module ! I would check the rear electronic module .
