    an implausible signal,means that it's not correlating with 2-1 ratio synchronisation with the crankshaft,ie; 720 deg rotation of crank-to-360 deg rotation of camshaft.it doesn't mean that 1 or the engine sensors are defective,basic valve timing(timing belt slipped a cog)or pulleys out of alignment are the usual cause on most vw audi's.

It's not enough only rebuild yours engine !!!
After new camshaft position sensor instalation and timing perfectly alignment you must scan the engine control computer and erase these error, actually all errors stocked in memory. The best scantool is VAS device used by VW-Audi dealers, VAG-COM by RossTech (cable + software 704.014, 805.01, ... on CD), or also Bosch KTS 540, 570, 670, ...
RESET = erase errors from the engine control computer memory !
Yours engine control computer don't understand if you only replace damaged sensors with new others! Errors still remains in memory affect engine runing!

In your case the turbocharger is responsible for engine losing power.
The car goes in "limp home" mode!!!
After scan the EDC-15P engine control unit with a VAG or KTS -BOSCH diagnosis tool you will find this: Fault code: P1557-Turbo Boost pressure control exceeded
1. Engine stopped and ignition switch off. Check all pneumatic connections and hoses between turbocharger actuator = pressure unit for boost-pressure control, boost-pressure control solenoid valve, vacuum reservoir, EGR control solenoid valve, intake-manifold flap solenoid valve, EGR valve with throttle - part of intake manifold. Also the vacuum connection between tandem pump and brake booster. If you find something wrong replace parts. If not go to step 2.
2. Extract the hose of the turbocharger actuator = pressure unit for boost-pressure control part of turbocharger. Instead of the original hose you must place another 1 meter long hose with the same inside diameter, and then you check to inspire yourself the air from the other one extremity of this hose. The mechanical connecting rod of the turbocharger actuator must have a smooth and whole motion. If you can do that with your mouth, then you must replace the boost-pressure control solenoid valve. If you can not reach this with your mouth, then you go to step 3.
3. This is the most difficult work. The problem is that the soot particles deposits inside the turbocharger plugging the variable nozzle geometry mechanism = adjustable vanes of the turbine. If the turbocharger actuator is not able to adjust the turbine vanes the charge air pressure increases too much and ECU (engine control unit) goes in "limp mode" = engine protection software. As a result the "limp home" mode engine still running until you turn the engine off (ignition switch off) and back on when the "limp mode" is deactivated, but the fault still remain in ECU memory!
4. You must be able to extract the turbo from the engine and then to disassemble the turbocharger, clean inside adjustable vanes mechanism and refit all.

What is the the volts fore the came sensor


The cam sensor outputs voltage pulses when the engine is running. The sensor is powered by the engine's computer, which typically provides 5VDC to power the sensor. With the engine not running, turn on the ignition switch. A cam sensor has three connections: Power (5VDC), signal output (% or 0 VDC varies with cam position), and ground return. Measure the signal voltage from the cam sensor wiuth repsect to ground. If it is 5V, slightly turn the engine's crank with a wrench until the cam sensor signal drops to zero volts. You should be able to see the signal voiltage switch between 5V and 0V while turning the crank slowly. If so, the sensor is working properly. If the signal doesn't change, the sensor is likely defective and should be replaced. They do fail.

P0341 - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

This P0341 code basically means that the powertrain control module (PCM) detected a problem with the camshaft signal. The camshaft position sensor (CPS) sends a specific signal to the PCM for Top Dead Center on the compression stroke as well as signals indicating the position of the cam sensor. This is accomplished through a reluctor wheel attached to the camshaft that passes by the cam sensor. Any time that the signal to the PCM is inconsistent with what the signal should be, this code is set. NOTE: this code can also be set by extended cranking periods.

Symptoms: The car will likely run with this code set, as it is often intermittent and also because the PCM can often operate the vehicle in "limp-in/limp-home" mode even with a cam sensor signal problem. There may be no noticeable symptoms other than:
* Poor fuel economy (if engine runs)
* Possible no start condition


Causes: A code P0341 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* Cam sensor wiring routed too close to spark plug wiring (causing interference)
* Poor wiring connection at cam sensor
* Poor wiring connection at PCM
* Bad cam sensor
* Damaged reluctor wheel

Possible Solutions: Often relacing the sensor fixes this code, but not necessarily. Therefore it's important to check the following:
* Check that the wiring isn't routed too close to any secondary ignition components (coil, spark plug wires, etc.)
* Visually inspect the wiring at the sensor for any burn marks, discoloration indicative of melting or chafing
* Visually inspect the cam sensor for damage
* Visually inspect the reluctor wheel through the cam sensor port (if possible) for any missing teeth or any damage
* If reluctor isn't visible from outside the engine, visual test can only be done by removing cam shaft or intake manifold (depending on engine design)
* If all checks out okay, then replace the sensor.

is running on the engine ecu. the Nox sensor is located to the rear of the cat and has a control box
bolted to the underside of the floor (o/s seat area) under the black
plastic protector

Car starts but revs for a few seconds with lots of black smoke and then cuts out have disconected exhaust from manifold but no change


Is this a diesel TDI PD ?? If so i had the same problem with one of these TDI engines and traced it to the crank sensor signal implausable. The revs would start increasing with no pressure on the throttle, lots of black smoke and then cut out. The crank sensor wiring was at fault in this case. The ECU didnt know where the crank position was in relation to the camshaft and was guessing when to inject the fuel. Hence the black smoke ! Hope this is of some use.
