On a 2002 Mazda V6 24 valve timing belt is been removed and cams are not aligned can you align them by hand or you need to have the belt on

Why don't you try and along them can you do it?? If not you need the holding tool that allows for the proper alignment of the timing belt gears on this engine.

How do you put a timing belt back in time after it broke?

Well, hopefully the valves were not damaged when the belt broke, If no valve damage was done, get the engine/crankshaft to top dead center, line up camshaft sprocket to timing mark and install belt around pulleys, gears, replace water pump if needed, tension belt if no automatic tensioner is used, try to start to see if it runs and hopefully it will. Might be time for an engine if valve damage was done.

Replace water pump 2004 clk500

Hi Scott, Work evolved in replacing a water pump depends on the vehicle. Some vehicles have the pump driven by the timing belt, while others drive via a 'V' belt or PK (Serpentine belt) If your is the latter, take a few photographs of the lacing for the reassembly before doing any disassembly. If it is a vehicle using the timing belt, photograph the serpentine belt and then remove it and the timing cover. Before removing the timing belt, rotate the engine to TDC and align the timing marks before taking off the belt. It is always a good idea to paint a spot of white paint onto the gears and the engine. Once the match marks have been identified and aligned, loosen the tensioner bearing fully before removing the belt. When refitting, set the marks by adjusting the belt alignment on the opposite side to the side fitted with the tensioner. Once aligned, retention and check the alignment again. If you're happy turn the engine by hand at least four times and recheck the matching up of the marks each second turn. Changing the water pump is straight forward and child's play compared to the associated work. Regards John

Camry timing belt

I am assuming you are referring to a 2.2 liter 5SFE engine. If so camshaft timing mark is dot located on forward face of sprocket mid spoke/or a notch on inboard rim of sprocket. locate mark and paint with white paint. Locate timing mark-small raised dot on plate behind sprocket at approx. one o-clock position paint this white for easy reference. Crank shaft sprocket has small notch on inboard rim. paint white for reference. align cam timing marks, then align crankshaft mark with #0 on timing scale. Adjust tensioner and belt is aligned. I recommend changing idler pulleys and water pump when replacing belt as preventative maintenance. Also inspect shaft oil seals and replace as needed. Performing these services now will save time and money in the future.

Fig. Fig. 17: Positioning the tensioner-3.0L engines
The timing belt can be inspected by removing the upper (front outer) timing cover.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  3. Remove the timing belt covers.
  4. Identify the timing belt running direction to avoid reversal during installation.
  5. Loosen timing belt tensioner bolt and remove timing belt.
  6. Remove the crankshaft sprocket flange.

To install:
  1. Rotate the crankshaft sprocket until timing mark on crankshaft sprocket is lined up with the oil pump timing mark at 1 o'clock position.
  2. Rotate the (inner) camshaft sprocket until mark on (inner) camshaft sprocket is lined up with the timing mark on alternator bracket.
  3. Rotate the (outer) camshaft sprocket (radiator side) until mark on the sprocket is lined up with the timing mark on the timing belt inner cover. Refer to timing belt illustration.
  4. Install the timing belt on the crankshaft sprocket while maintaining pressure on the tensioner side.
  5. Position the timing belt over the camshaft sprocket (radiator side). Next, position the belt under the water pump pulley, then over the (inner) sprocket and finally over the tensioner.
  6. Apply rotating force in the opposite direction to the camshaft sprocket (radiator side) to create tension on the timing belt tension side.
  7. Rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction and recheck engine timing marks.
  8. Install the crankshaft sprocket flange.
  9. Loosen the tensioner bolt and allow tensioner spring to tension the belt.
  10. Again rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction (2) full turns. Recheck the engine timing. Tighten the tensioner bolt to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm).
  11. Install the timing covers.
  12. Install the accessory drive belts.
  13. Connect battery negative cable.

I have 1991 subaru lagacy one day it just stop running, found the timming belt had jumped replace the belt it will try to start but wont, rechecked marks on belt all line up.i have spark and 43 psi fuel...

I hate to mention it but,a lot of cars(imports) when they jump time, they also bend valves. They call these interference engines. The piston hits the valves, when they are out of time.the car will not run unless the head is pulled and reworked. If you call NAPA auto parts, and ask for the price of a timing belt ,and then ask,is this a interference engine? and they will tell you for sure if it is in most cases.

Timing belt needs changed

if I had engine number I could supply details, this is the eng model number that is usually on a tag the size of cig pkt, situated in the firewall or inside of bonnet, others are on door pillar. Failing that strip down to the cambelt, see if you can identify marks on cam, crank sprockets and corresponding marks that they align to on block and head.it's good to paint mark the old belt to those marks so you can transfer those to the new belt,it will make timing easier as you have 2 self checks measures. nb:most belts have engine rotation direction printed on it. make sure that idler, tensioner pulleys arent noisey, if model has a silicone tensioner, these are more difficult to set if tensioner pulley swivels to tension...so to give more precise info i will really need engine spec/model no. IMPORTANT:when belt on,timed and tensioned, turn over in direction of engine crank 2 complete revolutions of crank pulley-that is 4 rotations of cam(s).all marks should be aligned(sprockets and marks)not always paint marks on belt though.if not aligned patience needed more than bent valves.
