Is having a speed sensor replaced expensive

The Volvo will probably cost you $95 diagnostic for the dealership to confirm the sensor is faulty. Then it will be about 1-2hrs labor at a rate of probably $70-$100 per hour. The sensor itself is around $85-$145 depending on which speed sensor it is.

Heater/defrost motor only runs on high setting. 2001 pontiac grandprix

Have you had your resistor pack checked? This is what controls your fan speeds, its the most common failure but sometimes the wire connector melts along with the failed unit..Usually not to hard or expensive to replace...Sometimes its just cheaper to just install one and avoid the diagnostic expense,if your wrong(probably not)its still cheaper than diagnostic labor...Good luck

Lexus 2003 RXx300 check engine light & VSC light on..told it was

Yes it could be other problem but the 02 sensor is not the same as the VSC vechilce speed control. You may have two problems. The 02 Sensor should not be more than $75.00 and a half our labor at most. If it is something else it would or could get very expensive. The reason the light comeson is it's has a emmison problem.

My speedometer on our 1993 Cadillac Allante only works about 15% of the time. Digital cluster dash set up. Any ideas on what the problem is.......? Ziproser@aol.com Ray!

The Speed sensor found near the transmission was replaced. The part is not expensive, however the labor time & effort needed getting to and from the sensors location is the most difficult part of this solution. The digital speedometer seems to be working just fine now.

Car won"t shift from second to third gear

Yes your car is in limp mode, but it's not necessarily an expensive problem.

The problem is usually caused by either a failed input speed sensor (35.00 retail) or output speed sensor (about $50.00 retail). If your speedometer isn't working it's the output speed sensor.

Either one takes just a few minutes to change but of course you'll get charged for an hour's labor. Good luck.

Is it expensive to fix the sensor that makes the speedo work

It's going to depend on WHO does the work and labor cost's.
The sensor should be in the transmission(speed sensor) and it may be reached by removing the transmission pan.NORMALLY they are located on the valve body in the transmission.
Call a few GOOD shops for quotes on cost's.Might as well change the trans, fluid while your there too.

I hace a 19196 sable-the problem is the transaxle speed sensor-this part sends all speed info to the computer ..-First symptom(speedometer stops working and then transmission shifts erratacially and power steering becomes hard and engine light comes on..The computer on this all eletronic car cannot send proper signals to the speedo-trans-power steering and other functions without knowing how fast or slow the car is going..Have the SPEED SENSOR mounted on top of the tranaxle replaced and all will be well.Part is not to expensive.labor can vary depending whether you have 3.0OHV or DOHC engine-some cars have to have exhaust dropped to get at it-Good Luck All
