Car wont start but batterys good

When turning switch over to start , ait sounded different and worsened as weeks went by until I had to use excellerator to start. Today the car just didnt crank back up but interior lights came on. I pulled battery out and was going to recharge but battergy charger showed full charge on battery. Is this the starter? solenoid switch? or a fuse? thanks J. Vest

A fully charged battery does not mean that its amperage output is adequate, have it tested at an auto parts store. While your problem could be battery, wiring, key switch, solenoid, starter or maybe really cold outside, best to start with simplest first, clean the battery terminals and cable connectors with a terminal brush tool and install anti-corrosion impregnated felt rings on each terminal. With the battery terminals disconnected, also unbolt and clean the solenoid and starter terminals too and re-tighten. Then find the "ground" connections from the negative battery cable to the metal chassis and from the engine to the chassis, unbolt, clean, sand clean each if necessary and reinstall. If when using a voltmeter there is any reading between the engine block and the negative terminal of the battery, installing an extra ground cable directly between the engine block and the negative battery terminal connector. When reinstalling battery terminals, install positive terminal first, place socket slightly larger than battery terminal on top of it and lightly tap to fully seat the cable connector on the battery terminal before tightening. Tighten snug enough that cable connector does not move on the battery terminal, do not over tighten. Beware of battery acid and accumulated corrosion, wear eye protection and protective gloves too and be aware that battery acid eats holes in clothing and cloth gloves. If problem persists, a DC voltmeter most useful to determine if when key turned to start, there is voltage applied to the solenoid. If yes, then to check if solenoid operates upon key turn to "start" applying voltage through solenoid to starter. If yes, and if battery amperage output tested "ok" then starter may need to be replaced.

Before replacing anything, install a temp ground wire between batt neg terminal and engine by using just one cable, the black cable, from a pair of jumper cables. If you get a more useful result, your grounding connectiions and probably all heavy amperage connections are dirty. So first disconnect both battery cables, neg first then pos. Follow the thick wires back to alternator and starter, disconnect those cables too. Then look carefully for any thick wires between engine and vehicle body. Sometimes on opposite side from battery. Disconnect those too. Get large plastic cup and can of Coke. Pour coke into large cup. Dip each disconnected end into coke, may see some bubbles and foaming. Remove, then dip in plain water in another cup to rinse. If you have a powered multi-tool put on narrow or pointed sander and install #110 grit or #220 grit. Sand all connection surfaces clean on heavy wire ends both sides, engine connection, body connection, etc. Coat each one with thin anti-corrosion dielectric grease and reassemble and tighten saving battery for last. Clean battery cable connectors and terminals with battery brush, install anti-corrosion saturated felt rings first then pos cable. Use large socket and light hammer to seat cable connector fully on batt terminal and tighten. Same procedure for Neg batt cable.

SOURCE: Charging problem.. Wont charge battery

The instructions for installing a new alternator usually read to fully charge the battery (12.3 - 12.8 volt range). Otherwise, the alternator will be damaged when it initializes. I have seen some extreme damage result from installing a new alternator with a low-charge battery. The torque required to turn an alternator when damaged in this scenario is unbelieveable!

Hold light flashing and car wont start

I had a similar problem with the hold light ( i believe that problem is a separate problem from your cylinder misfiring). There is a sensor near or on the tranny that was bad. But, perhaps that sensor being messed up is causing the car to think it is in a different gear and causing the misfire?
