Fault codes P0236 and P0046 keep coming up on my freelander1 td4 2004


P0236 = Possible causes are

1. Boost pressure sensor harness is open or shorted
2. Boost pressure sensor circuit poor electrical connection
3. Faulty boost pressure sensor
4. Faulty Turbo/Super Charger
5. Engine over temperature
6. Ignition misfire exceeds the threshold
7. Faulty Knock sensor (KS)

P0046 = Turbo/Super Charger Boost Control Solenoid Circuit Range/Performance

.... based on this information I would replace the turbo boost control solenoid first.

How to remove and replace boost pressure sensor, I realy want to know I want to replace mine.


Removal procedure
1.Disconnect harness assembly[1] from boost pressure sensor[2]
2.remove bolts[3] from boost pressure sensor [2]
3.Remove boost pressure sensor [2] from inlet manifold[5]
4.Remove O-ring seal [5]
Installation procedure:
1.Clean and replace worn out components.
2.Install a new O-ring 5 to boost pressure sensor [2]
3.Install boost pressure sensor [2] to to inlet manifold [5]
4.Install bolts[3] to to pressure sensor [2] finger tight.
5.Connect harness assembly[1] to boost pressure sensor[2]

It would probably have to be scanned and then the exact issue diagnosed on diagnostics, they would have to monitor to ensure that the fix has been effective. Even without knowing the make/model it is fairly certain that you need a garage, not necessarily a dealer but a good independent who has experience with your make/model....it is likely to be far cheaper than a dealer and you could get service that is just as good...check around for recommendations

P0234 Description
The boost pressure sensor responds to pressure changes in the intake manifold. This pressure is created by the turbocharger and changes with accelerator pedal position (APP) and engine speed. The engine control module (ECM) uses this information to assist in diagnosis of the barometric pressure (BARO) sensor and to provide engine overboost protection. The boost pressure sensor has a 5-volt reference circuit, a low reference circuit, and a signal circuit. The engine control module (ECM) supplies 5 volts to the boost pressure sensor on the 5-volt reference 2 circuit, and provides a ground on a low reference circuit. The boost pressure sensor provides a signal to the ECM on a signal circuit relative to the pressure changes. The ECM monitors the boost pressure sensor signal for voltage outside of the normal range. The ECM calculates a predicted value for the boost pressure sensor. The ECM then compares the predicted value to the actual signal.

2008 Ford F450 6.4 code P0088 3 times, ( check engine light on ) dealer will clear code, and it sets code P0088 again. dealer has no fix yet ( 90000 miles )


Hello, you might try a new fuel rail pressure sensor. This Code 0088 is for high pressure at the fuelrail. It would be possible to rig a testing pressure gauge to the truck and drive it to see what the pressure really is. If the dealer has a Dyno, he could run it in the shop.

Some of the reports I am reading is the Turbo boost for other owners is starting to max out about 70-75 MPH with a load and usually going up a grade before this light comes on. A certified Pressure gauge would show whether the sensor is tripping too early.

I want to believe there are some specs the Dealer could use to bench test this sensor. But if the end result is buying a sensor and paying Labor you could just go Aftermarket and install a New sensor yourself.

Would like to know the final solution on this.

Engine light is staying on dealer says it is the secondary injector pump what is the purpose of this pump and could it possibly be that?


the first pump is normally to get the fuel from the tank to the engine
the secondary pump boosts the fuel pressure to the injector,s so the fuel can be sprayed into the engine cylinders through the injectors
yes the light can be connected to this item through a fuel pressure sensor ,when the computer senses the pressure is low it will bring the light on ,then you have to taske it to the dealer to get it checked out
