Possible fault is the fuel shut off solenoid is not operational ( possible fuse ). there by allowing the fuel pump to work and pressurise the fuel manifold.. As it is connected to a gas system I would pay the money and have the car running properly.. For all gas/ petrol combinations it is a very good idea to use alternate fuels on a regular basis . Gas for a couple of days and petrol for a day or two.
With out starting the jeep turn the key forward with the window down and see if you hear a wherlling or humming sound coming out of your gas tank, that is the sound of the fuel pump kicking on if you do not here that then it is fuel pump related, then check fuel pump fuse, relay or safty shut of swich. or you could have to replace the fuel fillter if you do here the sound out of the fuel tank.
ok so now check for spark by removing a spark plug wire and sticking a srcew driver into it and then putting it next to metal on engine but not touching have some one crank it over and watch the screw driver for spark. sounds like one of the two crucial elements is missing you have gas and now you need spark to run.
make sure your fuel pump safty swich didn't trip, sometimes hard bumps little accidents will trip it,located I believe under right side kick panel inside trk,if that ok have your fuel pump pressure tested.
The electric fuel pump will have to much pressure for the carb, you need a pressure regulator to cut the pressure down to 5 psi. The reason the fuel pump won't stay running is because it gets its power from the oil pressure sensor by the distributor. Did you install this on the new engine and plug it in? The relay is what runs the pump for 5 seconds and shuts off.
