Brake lights on my son's 1994 318i are not

Brake lights on my son's 1994 318i are not working. We changed the fuse and it worked for about 10 minutes, now it is not working again.We just bought this car yesterday and don't want to spend a lot of money on repairs. Any suggestions? All the other lights in the back work.
