It turns off and shakes at the stop light

which engine, ??? we can not guess this. ever. nor help well.

6 engines used. world wide. just a tiny clue here, size matters.

stalls at stop lights.
1: needs a tune up? spark plugs?
2: if rpm is lower than 800 RPM hot, (A/c off) then the idle controls are failing. that is caused by many things, ask.

Is the CEL lamp glowing running, I bet it is, and if it is, that means
SCAN IT. Scan it and see the errors. DTC errors.
anyone can rent a scan tool, or get help, scanning it.

if car has an EGR valve, it can stick open and stall at every traffic light. so can sticking ISC motor (idle speed controller)
many jeep engine have no EGR, its done with fancy cam timing.
i cant speak for all 6 engines at once, so do post engine, size.
or its all just guessing....
more guesses. too high fuel pressure.
leaking injectors
dead clogged injectors.
ECT stuck at -40F
thermostat (coolant) stuck open. flooding, and fouling sparks plugs.
and 25 more. ask.
or scan it. and tell engine size.

that mean you are low incoolant ,and you may have a stuck thermostat or a bad water pump

Cadillac running at 228 degrees to 240 in traffic. Will putting a cold thermostat correct this problem?

It could most certainly be a bad or stuck thermostat, but on a 1997 model, your water pump may be gone (or not circulating enough coolant).
This is why its only heating up while in traffic - there is no airflow cooling the fins of your radiator from moving at speed.
I would check this out - WHILE ENGINE IS COLD - Start the engine and then remove the radiator cap - you should see coolant circulating from the movement of the water pump. Let it run 5-10 minutes to see if the thermostat will open - if it does open, your temp gauge should come down from the opening of the thermostat

1998 cadillac catera oil pressure light come and and the car overheats when sitting in traffic....

CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL SHOULD BE ON THE FULL MARK ON ENGINE DIP STICK. IF OIL LEVEL IS LOW.LOOK FOR OIL LEAKS UNDERNEATH CAR.IF ENGINE NOT LEAKING OIL CHECK OIL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 22 PSI @ 900 RPM IF NOT OIL PUMP FAULTY OR YOU HAVE WORN ENGINE BEARINGS.IF OIL PRESSURE OKAY YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT. CHECK COOLING FAN TO SEE IF CAR COOLING FANS RUNNING WHILE ENGINE OVERHEATING.IF NO CHECK COOLING FANS RELAY AND FUSE IF ALL IS GOOD ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY. IF COOLING FANS RUNNING WHILE ENGINE OVERHEATING.HAVE RADIATOR AND ENGINE FLUSHED OUT. REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.

I HAVE 2004 MONTE CARLO. THE HOT COOLANT TEMP LIGHT HAS COME A FEW TIMES. THE HEATER ONLY BLOWS COLD AIR FOR A BIT AND THEN EVENTUALLY HEATS UP. THE CAR NEVER SEEMS TO RUN HOT THOUGH. I HAVE BEEN TOLD...

A blown head gasket is usually easy to confirm. The head gasket prevents the engine coolant and oil from mixing under the head. If you have a blown head gasket, you should be able to see bubbles of water/cooland on the dip stick when you check your oil.

I do agree that with your heater taking a while to get warm, it probably has some build-up in the system that needs to be flushed out, before it causes other issues.

Best of luck!

The front cup holder is off track. How do I fix this?

Just did this myself.
Open the front compartment under the drink holder, lightly push to one side and then pull on the side where the crack you've just made is to disengage the clips, repeat for the other side.
When you have that cleared, remove the screws that have the face plate attached to the drink holder.
Stick your hand up in through the hole where the lower compartment was and with the other hand push the drink holder in and out, changing the angle a little bit until you can pull it free.

Viscous fan come loose can car be driven

It can be driven but you will have to monitor the engine temperature guage to make sure it doesn't get too hot. As long as your driving steadily over 30 mph, you should be fine. The problem is if you are stuck in traffic, your engine can overheat.

What you can do if you are stuck in traffic is turn your heat in your car to max and point the vents out the window. That will help somewhat. If you are stuck in traffic too long it may be wise to pull over and shut the engine off until the traffic is moving at a good clip again.
