Not familiar with your model, but generally, release tension and remove belt, then one bolt usually holds tensioner in place. Often use same special tool which is used to release tension, with different socket to remove bolt. When reinstalling new part, if you can't use torque wrench, apply drop of blue "Locktite" to bolt threads first, then just tighten firmly (about 25 to 40 ft lbs). Reinstall belt.
Probably a break inside wiring loom of one/more of the three wires that eventually connect to the speed sensor on top of gearbox. The break I fixed in my 2003 Leon 1.6SX was in the loom under battery tray. My symptoms were no speedo working, and erratic fuel guage (particulary when under 1/2 full). I repaired one broken wire.
Jim Nichol Seat leon 2003 problem with speedo not working and fuel gauge faulty is...
Your speedo may have a transducer on the side of the gearbox that sends electrical signals up to the speedo, if the transducer is faulty you will not have a speed reading on the speedo
hope this helps
bye the way, I have never had the pleasure to work on a mercedes but I would imagine that it will be similar to most modern cars
it sounds as though your transmission input and output sensors are faulty.they are located on the driver side of transmission.input at front of trans.output at rear of transmission. normally if input sensor is faulty trans will stay in limp mode. if output sensor is faulty speedo will not register. they both resemble temp sensors with elec connectors
Look for water pump, fan belts, steering belt, AC belts and pulleys. These are common causes of these strange noises which come on and off. Also check all the mechanical nuts, bolts, screws are tightened and not rattled.
