Question about 2008 Chevrolet Equinox
3.6 liter V6, StabilizTrac Light on, no power steering at all. Fine when I drove it this a.m., 13 hours later I start it up, no power steering. Did feel a vibration in steering wheel a couple times but was able to drive it home. Very difficult to make turns. 3 months ago emission light on, had to have a tune up. Worked fine.
You could have a leak in the lines connected to your power steering pump, or your pump could have failed all together, or the cables that run the pump could have snapped. Hopefully though you just have low power steering fluid levels and you can just buy some and fill the reservoir back up.

If it is an amber light that says " anti lock" You will be safe, you just wont have anti lock brakes. The car may have traction controll. If so, look in the manual to be sure what light is on. As a general rule amber lights are warnings and red lights means stop. If the light stays on you will have to go to the dealer to have the code read.

SOURCE: power steering
This is a known problem with the power steering which will probably
require replacement of the power steering motor. The HHR uses an
electric 12V DC motor to provide the power steering force, and they have
GM is recalling the Cobalt and other vehicles for this issue, but not yet the HHR. If you are out of warranty, you will probably be personally responsible for the cost of diagnostics and replacement.
You will probably need to contact your dealer unless you are able to replace the motor yourself. Sorry.
