Question about 1990 Acura Integra Hatchback

Car sounds terrible

Car has new plugs and wires, new timing belt, water pump, distrubuter rotor & cap. I have been advised that I could need a new distributer all together. Could this be?

The ignitor is known to go out on these. I believe there was a recall a while back. I believe it sits below the coil in the cap.

This is a typical ignition problem. Coil or ignition module. Could be cap, rotor, plugs, or plug wires. if you took it to garage and they said this is the problem... Take it back. Make them fix it. You paid to have it fixed. It wasn't fixed.

I would definitely try the distributer cap and rotor button. It's about a 15 minute job and might solve your problem. As the car warms up the electrical components of course heat up too. As the heat goes up, resistance also increases in electrical connections, wires, etc. You could be getting enough current to pass between the rotor and the poles at low temps but, as they heat up, sufficient current for a good spark is not being passed along.

Most parts from the parts store are made in mexico, reconditioned from old pumps that were sent back.

Replace the pump with a FACTORY part. As for your poor running engine, I would recommend replacing the spark plug wires and spark plugs. If it is equipped with a distributor; replace the cap and rotor. These parts are high-voltage related and will not work properly if they are damaged and moisture is present.

to me it sounds like your just about to put water down your exhaust mate or your rings are binding up. I recon dump your oil and run diesel oil from now on and reset your timing belt before those new spark plugs end up in your lap.

Iam changing the timing belt need to know the marks to set it on on a 1990 ford mustang 4cyl

If you mark your timing gears, crankshaft & camshaft against the cyl. head & block with white paint before removing the old belt you really can't go wrong. After fitting the new belt rotate the engine by hand and re check your marks.

IT SOUNDS AS THOUGH EITHER THE BELT IS A TOOTH OUT, OR HAVE YOU MOVED THE DIZZY WHEN CHANGING THE ROTOR ARM? IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WITH A TIMING LIGHT, THEN YOU CAN CHECK ALL THE TIMING WITHOUT STRIPPING IT AGAIN. BUT IF YOU CHECK THAT THE DIZZY IS TIGHT THEN IT IS A VERY GOOD CHANCE THAT THE BELT IS A TOOTH OUT

Water pump

not necessary to replace the due to the water pump, but u should replace the cap, rotor, wires, and plugs every 60,000 miles or as needer if they are worn. as for your water pump, u should also replace the thermostst and gasket with the pump, and check the belt or belts for wear and replace them as needed
