Question about 1997 Buick LeSabre
Just clicks, sometimes nothing somes i put it in neutral and it starts. help
The car will not start unless it is in Park or Neutral (you already knew that) there is a cable from the shifter to the switch that starts the car that controls that function. I think it has slipped out of adjustment.

If the engine will not turn over using the starter then it cannot be the fuel pump. If the car has a factory inhibitor system installed, the chances are that it is this system that is preventing the car from starting. You may not have to press a button on the key fob either, it may have a transponder built into the key fob which transmits it's data at switch on.If you don't have the correct key or a key without a keyfob then the anti-theft system will NOT be disabled and the car will not start. There is no easy answer for this as you need the correct keyfob or you need to purchase and have programmed, the new keys.. If this is not the issue, let me know and I will describe further procedures for your issues..

Sounds like a bad battery cable, replace those and it will probably cure your issue.A neutral safety switch could cause the same problem.Remove the kick panel and fallow the steeling column down to just before the universal joint. On the top side of the column is the neutral safety switch and just above that is the ignition switch. The neutral switch keeps you from starting the car in gear and the ignition switch sends the signal to the starter to turn over the engine.First try to jump the purple wire on the starter solenoid over to the large post that has the battery cable connected to it.Danger, leave the key off so the car won't accidentally start. It should turn over, if it doesn't then loosen the retaining bolts that hold the starter two full turns. If it turns over now you'll need to shim the starter to achieve the proper clearance.Once you get the starter to turn over at the starter start tracing back wards toward the steering column until you find whats causing your starting problem.Try this and re-post if you still have problems. We'll go in to testing the neutral safety as well as the ignition switch next. Good luck!
