My Vw golf GT 2004 lost power and epc light came on now it won't start and just makes a grinding noise when trying to start the car is this a precaution to stop there being any major damage to car before it is fixed I have no idea hope it's not major engine trouble

Check engine light on? if not sounds like a bad starter.

SOURCE: vw golf gti internal fan not working

there is a fan resistor which controls the speed of the fan,which is probably burnt out,should be located near the fan motor,behind glove box.

You may need to install what they call shims in between the starter and the flywheel in order to align it correctly with the flywheel

It could be a loose or defective gas cap.

Vw passat epc light on

the belt slips, and the engine goes into limp mode, and the epc light will come on- to protect itslef until its fixed. Once its fixed...you may have to decode her up to 9 times to get it to start...I did. Ive done 5 timing belt changes on these blasted cars and every time it slips a tooth and the engine cuts itself off with epc, i have to decode it at least 8 times. good luck. and to the idiot who said gas cap..get a life .

First of all you need to access the Engine Control Module (ECM) using suitable diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC's memored. DTC = Diagnostic Trouble Code. Then you will bu full informed about the root cause of the problem, and you will be able to repair & replace bad pieces and reset the ECM. Then the EPC (Electronic Pedal Control) yellow light will turn OFF.

the epc light is telling you that you have a feuling problem, get a mechanic to run a diagnostic scan to find the suorce, it should be only something small because the only dangerous light to look for is the oil light

EPC Light on , VW dies when stopping

Tell him to clean the electrical connector at the throttle body with 90% rubbing alcohol. He may want to use a nylon brush on the contact pins while cleaning. I'm pretty sure the car needs a throttle adaptation performed also. Find a shop with a Vag Com scanner, they can do it for you.
