I would recommend replacing it Because if not your timing could get messed up I had the same problem you are and I put just the one screw in and my timing ended up getting all out of whack going down the highway due to vibrations But yes I would recommend replacing it so that doesn't happen to you

Are you talking about the lock tab to the connector or what? if its the lock tab seating the distributor then yes replace it because it will allow it to move and do more damage. Also cause the timing to be off. If its the connector tab, just put you a dot of RTV on it and let it dry. it will hold it in place.

Spark plug wires installed wrong

I did this also recently, but I also changed the distributor cap and rotor. THAT was my problem....Distributor screw tabs on distributor are plastic and can break off.....1st...Make sure you installed the wires in the right firing order. If they're correct, check your cap and rotor and make sure they are seated correctly. If the tabs broke off, Napa makes a metal U shaped piece that fixes this.

How do i get the head light out when the leveris broke

Push the tab with a screw driver and slide while holding the headlight assembly or it will fall off. It's a square tab where the handle broke, just push it to lower the tab from the lock position.

How do i remove the distributor

Turn the engine to #1 TDC Compression. Remove the cap and note the position of the rotor. Undo the wires connected to the distributor. Undo the clamp that holds the bottom of the distributor in and lift the distributor out.

How to replace distributor

remove the air cleaner and mark where the plug wires are on the distributor cap. if you get lost the firing order on the v8 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 remove the distributor cap. unplug the distributor and using a white grease marker mark where the tab on the rotor is pointing. i usually make sure its where i can mark the intake so i can line it up later. go to the parts store and either rent or buy a distributor tool to remove the bolt holding the lock down clip at the base of the distributor. dont let it fall Murphy law says it will fall where you cant get a hold of it lol. after removing the lock down clip the get a hold of the distributor and wiggle it back and forth while pulling up on it it should slide out. when you reinstall it make sure you line it up with tab and your mark. as you put it down in it slides into the tooth of the cam and will rotate as you slide it in so you have to be one tooth before your mark and it should slide into the mark. make sure you use the new gasket with the new one and dont over tighten the lock down bolt. good luck

1998 GMC Distributor the frontside of the distributor where theCap screws down the tab broke the screw will not tighten

Yes , what a world when they make the distributor base from plastic. In an emergancy for a friend I glued the cap to the base with RTV sealant and it worked fine. Other than that you would replace the distributor as the ear breaks off of these when overtightened.

96 jimmy replaced the dist. cap now wont start no spark at the coil???

Double check to make sure your rotor is cliped into the right place. It should have a slot it slides into. Also check to make sure the cap was not put on crooked and bend a tab or broke the rotor or broke the steel tab off the rotor. Also check to make sure that you did not accidently unhook any wires to the distributor.

Key ignition switch needs replaced lock cylinder how do i change key broke off inside damaged needs replaced wires broke off behind key switch

disconnect the battery and pull the air bag fuse out to diable the air bag. Remove the steering coulmb trim covers and expose the lock cylinder. If the lock cylinder can be turned and is functional then push in the bottom tab and turn the lock cylinder then pull the whole cylinder out. If the keys broke inside and the lock cylinder is not functional the bottom tab will need to be drilled out.

Installation of horn contact and steering wheel on trans am. Car is a 1981

Pull the horn cap off, it should have plastic tabs that lock into a metal cylinder underneath, but will pop off pretty easily. That metal cylinder should be held on by 3 screws. Under those screws is a plastic washer and your contact ring. If you're replacing a steering wheel and need to pull the old one buy, rent or borrow a steering wheel puller. There's nothing worse than having to explain to your buddies how you broke your nose removing a steering wheel. They puller looks like a crows foot. It has three slots on one side and one on the back side. You can use three bolts to attach it to the steering wheel. I wrench will work to screw down the large bolt in the center and the steering wheel will come right off. Put a new steering wheel on, new contacts, and you should be set to go.
