there are many problems with the 1995 jetta ignition. All your lights,head lights, fog, and instrument lights get power when you turn the key on. I had to bypass alot of this when i got my jetta. I also reran the wires from the fog and headlights so you can manually turn them on
I had this problem with my :Passat last week. Remove the switch from the driver's door. Carefully take it apart, the top is just a snap fit over the bottom and the clips are on the sides, not the ends. Look carefully at the circuit board for signs of corrosion. That's your problem, just replace the switch.
If you buy another factory radio it'll need the unlock code to work with your factory alarm system. But if you go with an after market radio it'll work just fine, your alarm will just think there's no radio installed.
