Re Clarion radio screen brightness, I have retro fitted the radio to another vehicle but the wiring diagram doesn't mention a dimmer. Do I need to hook one of the wires into the headlights?

One of the wires on the radio is for the brightness. Connect this wire to one of the dash lights that dim with the dimmer control or the headlight switch dimmer if your vehicle is equipped that way.

Highbeam work lowbeams done fuses and relay good what next

What is year--make--model of vehicle? Right now, I'd say, check the wiring circuit to and from dimmer switch. Could be dimmer switch, itself?

With wiring diagram, you can find proper color wire from steering column to low beam, everything on, see if voltage on that wire. I'm speculating that the dimmer switch controls voltage to low beam and not ground.

Under the dash, find wiring harness that goes into steering column, find proper color wire, test. If no voltage, when there should be, I think the problem is in the steering column, either wiring circuit or dimmer switch.

1988 GMC Van headlights cut off when I tilt steering wheel.

You need to check the wires in the steering column. Take the column cover off, probably phillips-head screws, so you can see the wires. Somewhere the tilting function is putting pressure on the wires to the dimmer switch. It may be pulling loose a connection, just a fraction, to lose contact. You may also need a new dimmer switch. Or a multifunction switch if the dimmer switch is attached that way. The headlight switch is on the dash, isn't it? If it is, the headlight switch is not the problem, it is the wires in the steering column or the dimmer switch. If the dimmer switch fails, you will have no high or low beams, no head lights at all.

Tail Lights will not always illuminate; seems to have a short in dimmer switch

This is not necessarily your dimmer switch. Most manufacturers tie the dash lights to the tail lights so that it warns you in a visible way if your tail-lights are not working. It sounds more like you have a power supply problem unless working the dimmer switch actually causes or resolves the problem. Chances are you either have a shorting power wire, or a mostly broken wire that is only making an intermittent connection. If it was constant I'd suggest checking fuses but with an intermittent issue, The only way to really check this is to start tracing wires and testing power along them when it's not working. Wiring diagrams help a lot.

What is the pink wire for in the stereo of a 2006 Hyundai Santa fe? and what do I connect the dimmer wirefrom the santa fe to in a new stereo

The pink wire from the stereo unit is often the dimmer wire, and is connected to a power feed from the vehicle's side lights. Not all stereos have a dimmer function however, and may not have this wire available.

Dash lights do not work 2000 ford exploier

All go out at once, first check fuses, then dimmer switch for dash lights, finally headlight switch. To check dimmer switch, pull connection off back, on harness with test light and headlight switch activated, 1 of the leads should have power, if so, use ohm meter on dimmer to make sure it has reading between 0 and some value, if no value, open, dimmer is bad, if there wasn't power then check headlight switch, there should be heavier gauge wire that powers switch and 1 for output to hi/lo switch, smaller gauge wires for tail lamps, dash lights, license plate lamps, parking lights. The color wires from dimmer would correspond to the same colored wires on headlamp switch, probe that connection on headlamp switch with switch engaged and see if you have power, if not replace switch, if so, check wire from switch to dimmer. Now if the lights slowly went from bright one day, to less bright some other day, to not working, then the bulbs are bad... good luck...

I have a 96 suburban and the headlights don't come on at all i have checked and replaced the fus, headlight bulbs and head light switch. i realized i am not getting any power to the bulbs. is it posible...

Its the dimmer switch. The hot wire at the dimmer switch is Yellow. Then low beam is tan, and high beam is light green . be sure the yellow wire has 12v. then check the other wires, if no voltage, then connect yellow to the tan or lt green, if lights work, then the dimmer switch is bad.

I have a 96 tahoe, the dash ights keep going out by blowing the fuse. Can the dimmer switch cause that or is it a shorted wire?

Yes the dimmer can. Some use a wire resistor (Coiled up wire) that burns up. You can by-pass the dimmer. It will have power going to it, and then out of it. Some headlight switches have the dimmer incorporated into it, and you can just move one of the wires on the harness connector to "bypass" the dimmer, and the dash lights will be on "full."

My dashbord lights have went out and i dont think the fuse is blown i think it burnt my dimmer switch out cause i hooked a wire backwards in the radio i need the wire diagrams for the radio

the wire on the radio that controls the backlighting, does go to the dimmer.if you shorted it you could have cooked the dimmer switch.so on one side there would be 12 volts going into the dimmer and none coming out.measure the resistance and see if it is open
