Question about 1992 Ford Thunderbird
Engine vibrates severely at start , idle and while running. But, at times just a little and sometimes runs fine. I can start it and it's really bad., I shut it off and start it again and it may run fine or a little vibration . But it doesn't get different while running either. What could that be?
Have you checked the motor mounts? A bad motor mount will shake rattle and roll.

sounds like you may have a broken exhaust pipe. it can happen from vibrations over time, or also if the truck is very hot, and you drive through a puddle of water, or wash it, etc. metal expands when it gets hot, and if too much water hits it, it will contract again at a very rapid pace, and sometimes causes cracks this way. id have an exhaust shop look at it to be sure. they probably wont charge you for just a quick check, and the repair shouldnt be too pricey. or another possibility is that you may have a gasket leaking somewhere onthe exhaust system. as for how big a problem it is, it really depends on where it broke at. if its really close to the engine, then dont drive it. you may risk internal engine damage. if its closer to the rear end, then its not too harmful. it will most likely cost you some fuel economy though.

I'm having the same problem with my 90 2.3L Ranger. I replaced the EGR Valve back in August and the truck ran fine (but the gas mileage was bad) until late December . I knew it needed an O2 Sensor back in August but didn't replace it until last Saturday along with the Idle Air Control Valve, Plugs and Wires. The truck ran fine for a couple minutes then started running like a VW bug! My code reader is now throwing out an EGR failure code, so I guess i'll take the 4 month EGR back and get a new one, and see what that does!
