You can remove seat back and reach in with a magnet or grabbers. there is structure so you will not be able to crawl back there like some sedans. the seat back attaches with hooks and tabs. you have to pull out on one end, then the other end, then up

The real answer. Open the fuse box found on the far left side of the dash with the drivers door open. Remove the panel cover and you will see an unmarked fuse with what appears to be black fuse pullers attached to it. Pull it out as far as it will go and push it back in. Your trunk release button will now work without the key for a several minutes.

All gas charged supports are not created equal. I recommend using O.E. for this application.
Snow,ice and trapped water make the lid heavier than it should be make sure these are not the issue.
