Re: Found the box with multiple relays and no marking as to which is the Glow Plug relay

As commented the glow plug relay to plug is a 3BY (Black with Yellow) lead - not through a relay. The power is a 3B (Black) in Isuzu Elf NKR Engine or JMC Carrying Truck. I hope it is the same color coding as over here.

The wire that runs to the glo-plugs comes from the relay and as it is a heavy gauge wire (colour coded ) try tracing it back to a relay. IT may be completely separate to all the others.

SOURCE: Glow PLugs and Relays

Good Day
The glow plug relays are located on the right front shock tower. Remove the cover and you will see two relays If I remember I think they are round, but not sure.

Please let me know how you make out and if there is anything else that I might be able to help you with.

Cheers

SOURCE: 1983 Chevy Silverado, Glow plug light will not come on, Truck will turn over but not start, fuse panel has no blown fuses, I suspect the Glow Plug Relat but I don't know how to verify it is bad.

With most relays, you have 4 wires. One is power to the component the relay controls, one is a ground to the relay magnet, one is power to the magnet, and the fourth goes to the component, in this case the glow plugs. The ground usually comes from the computer.
With the key on you should have power to two terminals and you would jumper the hot terminal to the glow plug terminal. Or use a test light or meter to check for power on the glow plug circuit.

2010 KIA Sportage 2.0 CRDI glow plug relay replacement

On the Diesels there is a second fuse/relay box under the bonnet. With the bonnet open stand in front of the vehicle. As you look down at the engine there is a small black box on the right side, just behind the headlight. It is not hidden behind anything so is reasonably easy to get to. The top should simply unclip and have the relays marked on it. The glow plug relay is the top left relay in that relay box.
Attached is a photo of where the relay box is and a link to a website listing all the fuses and relays for your vehicle.

If the glow plugs are faulty,this would be the reason for the problem,they are not glowing very well,unless the glow plugs have been replaced,then the circuit from the glow plug relay is faulty,or the relay itself,

How do i replace my VW SHARAN 02 glow plug relay. and what is it. i have been told that the glow plug relay is going. Could you please tell me what a glow plug relay is and what it does??? Also do i need...

the glow plug relay is a little black box normally located in the fues box, the relay regulates power to the glow plugs, if the relay is not functioning correctly the plugs will not heat enough or, you will have to allow a longer time to let them heat up, it acts like a switch as such, when you turn on your ignition it switches over to make a contact inside, which inturn starts the heating prosess of the glow plugs when they are at the correct tempreture or the onbored computer detects they are it then switches back , without it , say just using a fuse instead, your glowplugs will just get hotter and hotter till they melted, and no you dont have to change the glow plugs hope this helps, ime not good at explaining stuff in writing lol

I have a 1997 ford F350 WITH A 7.3L DIESEL, it turns over but will not start. My wail to start light or other indicator lights do not come on when I turn on the key.

The first thing to do is locate the owner manual.

Look for the glow plug relay MAIN FUSE location.

The glow plug portion of your van is not working.

This difficulty scale from 1 to 10 is a 9.

You will need a DVM and tool undo the cables to each glow plugs.

It's a 1 to 2 hours troubleshooting job.

I'm going to fire off a quick list

====
Check / replace blown glow plug relay main fuse
====

Disconnect each center nut of the glow plug wire. PLEASE CHECK ONE AT A TIME.

Read the resistance between the center of the glow plug and the metal base of the plug.

Please take good note on each glow plug resistance reading.

MAKE SURE all cables are put back and tighten properly.

Compare the resistance on all cylinders.

OPEN/high resistance is bad glow plug.

In general 3 ohm or less is OK.

You should buy one and use its value as baseline.

===

Glow plug relay can be bad.

You will need the VOM and a friend to turn the key.

Check the voltage to each glow plugs. It should be 12.6-13.6 volt.

Be careful,the plugs will get HOT.

Compare the voltage on each cylinders.

====
So the problem can be combination of

glow plug relay

glow plug relay main fuse

glow plugs

ignition switch is unlikely but I'm going to list it anyway.

Once again,this is a difficult and time consuming job. I will ask a friend to help out,

Good luck.
