Alternator problem i have just purchesed a vw transporter t5 2.5 ti and the charge light is on the alternator seems new there is no risistance at the pully i can see a belt

The easy way to check if the alt. give charging is by using a metal then touch the alt. body if the alt. has produce magnet meaning its charging. Or to verify it is by DMM measure the voltage in batt. term. it should be 14v.

Did the shop actually connect a scan tool and check the diagnostic code to see if it is at all related to the charging system? A bad alternator or battery could certainly cause the "battery" light to come on, but it's less likely to cause a check engine light. It is possible though, especially if the battery voltage is low and the alternator is not working to keep the charging system at the correct voltage once the engine is running.

Remove alternator vw transporter t28 tdi


You will see the bolts holding the alternator in place. In most cases no more than three to remove. Before starting the replacment disconnect battery.............hope this help and good luck.....Please rate this.

AA or the RAC ---they use failed mechanics trust me on this one ,anyway it could be that you need a new alternator because one of the diodes has packed up so its earthing itself out .Next time you call one out ask if they hold a associated member of the institute of road transport engineers .takes 6 years of college for that exam .Then they might know what their talking about

VW transporter power problem


Hi nick. I have a T5 04 model and recently had the same problem. i was told it was a blown turbo so i had a friend look at it and turbo was fine. got vw to run a diagnostics and it had a broken wire running from the charge pressure meter. replaced for 9 euro. 3 weeks later same problem and it turned out to be a loose plug on the air mass meter. now its perfect again. apparently what happens is that if the engin management is getting a wrong reading from the pressure meter it limits the van to 40 horse power for fear of blowing the engine. whenever i switched the van off and back on the problem would fix itself but as time went on it got worse until complete failure. the wire is located under the coolant resivoir. dont know exactly where though. email me on paulblackpb@gmail.com if you need to know more. if it does turn out to be the turbo (which i doubt) then there is a website called CRTurbos that seem to be the cheapest around. but i seen another forum where the turbos were replaced and the problem remained. I suggest first look at the charge pressure meter.

Battery light stays on until I press the gas


Known issue to occur occasionally on VW/Audi. What is occurring is that the alternator is not spinning out fast enough to start charging, so the light is on. Once you rev the engine, the alternator starts to charge and remains charging till its shut off and restarted. It can be related to too low of an idle (not adjustable, unless you have a dirty throttle plate or air leak), the alternator itself (aftermarket or a bad rebuild) or an incorrect alternator pulley installed (too large).

Yes, by connecting the charger the wrong way round you have damaged the rectifier in the alternator, now needs a replacement

loud your battery again and see if ti keep running it down--if yes check the battery loading size it suppose to be around 12-13.
less then 9-10 in most cases it's the alternator cause another thing is your battery could be out of work
