I appreciate your common sense approach but i thought i was paying Fixya to fix my problem not tell to contact a ford dealer. I could have saved my money and figured that out myself.

There is no generic code that can fix this. You will need to call the dealer near you and give them the information about the car and a bit of personal information as well. This is in place to protect your property and you from being raked over the coals. They may have to call you back because they will check ownership of the car through the DMV. Hope this helps and if so rate my answer please. Good luck.

There are a few companies that will post there codes to various members of there forums but FORD doesn't. Plus this is the safest way to protect your info.

I have located a site that you can pay 7 dollars to and they can give you the codes for you radio. www.fordlockcodes.com Try this if you don't want to wait on the dealer. Keep in mind that this is not FORD but they do promise security.

EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is part of the vehicle emmissions system, and is used to reduce combustion temperature and pressure to control Oxides of Nitrogen. There are generally three parts to the EGR system: the EGR valve, an actuator solenoid, and a differential pressure sensor EGR (DPFE). These things work together to deliver the correct amount of recirculation based on engine temperature, load, etc. The P0401 code means that OBD detected an insufficient amount of EGR.

Symptoms
You may notice drivability problems such as pinging (a.k.a. pre-ignition knock) when the engine is under load or the vehicle is at higher speeds. There may also be other symptoms.

Causes
A code P0401 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:

The DPFE (differential pressure feedback EGR) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
There is a blockage in the EGR (tube), most likely carbon buildup
The EGR valve is faulty
The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum
Possible Solutions
In fixing this code, it is quite common for people to just replace the EGR valve only to have the OBD code return. The EGR valve is not always the culprit.

Use a vacuum pump and pull the EGR valve open while monitoring engine RPM's & DPFE voltage. There should be a noticable difference in RPM's with the EGR open
Clean out the EGR valve and/or tubing to remove deposits
Check the voltage at the DPFE, compare to specified values (refer to a repair manual for your specific model)
Replace the DPFE sensor (with a good quality / OEM one)
Find a car repair manual for your Ford Escape Repair Question.

Hi

First you can try to locate the keycode label inside glover box. If you are unable to find then usually after the battery is replaced these units work and then they dont require a code. However even after changing the battery it still does not work then you need to contact the service center.

Please do accept the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

My radio isn't working we changed the battery just this morning and now the Radio doesn't turn on at all.

radios have an anti theft device in the system that cuts in when the battery or the radio is removed or disconnected
If the radio is factory fit and not very old you should be able to get the code from the dealer
if not there are free download sites that have radio codes for all makes and models
all you have to do is search your make of radio, model of car and if you have it the serial number of the radio

How do I reset the computer on Ford 2011 escape?

The best way is to take out the fuse that says ECM. If that is not possible, you can disconnect the battery but if you do that make sure that you have any radio codes that you may need and any precautions about anti theft.

IF you disconnected the battery then the program may be corrupted , Use a scanner to reset the CPU program and go from there. You do not have to start the car to check for damage . Just have a compression test done

Radio code ford escape 2003

You need to take the radio out of the dash. Post up the serial number beginning with the letter M and I will give you your code.

If the serial begins with V this is a newer radio and you cannot get these for free anywhere on the net. I recommend this site for the newer V serials requiring codes. Its the cheapest and best around. Click here.

Our vehicles battery went dead so we just replaced the battery on our 2003 ford escape and now the radio, power locks, and clock do not work. What should I check?

If the stereo is a factory stereo, you need to call Ford dealer to get the unlock code, this is common with many different makes. As far as the rest, when a battery is replaced, different makes have certain methods required to "reset" the systems.I do not know why they do it.Is it really going to deter theft, you know what I mean?Anyhow, ask the dealer if that applies to your vehicle too,a reset.Tell them you replaced the battery and all the rest what you told me.
Good luck! Greg
