How do I get the service engine soon light to go out

The "Service Engine Soon" comes on when the ECM receives information from the engines sensors that exceeds normal acceptable operating parameters. The ECM will store a code (or codes) indicating which system(s) are out of tolerance and light the "Service Engine Soon" lamp. The technician will read the codes, diagnose and repair the condition(s), and reset the "Service Engine Soon" lamp. The lamp does NOT go out on its own (in most cases), once repairs are made. There is a scan tool that is used to clear the stored codes that allows the lamp to go out. It is therefore possible that you may already have fixed the condition that set your light to on. Or not. The whole purpose of the lamp was to help avoid the kind of "hit and miss" repair methodology that you have employed so far. Many feel the need to try this as they fear the costs of a professional mechanic reading the codes and the cost of repairs. Fortunately, there are less costly options available. Many of the large auto parts chains will read the "Service Engine Soon" codes for you at no cost. They will tell you what codes are present and you can decide if you (or someone you know) can perform repairs or if you need a pro to check things out. They do NOT, normally, perform resets of the lamp as this has potential liability issues for them. If you need the lamp reset after repairs are made, you have two options; pay the pro, or buy a scan tool that has the ability to reset the light. Not all do. The cheaper units are only code READERS. Be careful when you buy. But if you watch for sales, you can usually get a low-cost scan tools that can read and reset codes for around $40.00. Good luck.

My 1998 V-6 Ford explorer 4 door failed last month due to computer not ready/ eng light on. Well the engine lite went off today so i brought it in for reinspection. Now new codes are showing?...

171 and 174 are engine running lean. Repair cost will depend on cause. Check for vacuum leaks. Start by checking for vacuum lines coming off the engine intake manifold. Make sure they are all attached at both ends and are not cracked, etc. These engines have a lot of intake manifold gasket issues. Spray carb cleaner or starter fluid at the gaskets with the engine running. If the engine revs at all, you have leaky gaskets. This is a bigger job to fix--a few hours labor.

153 and 1151 is an O2 sensor. About $150 bucks to fix that.

If you have more questions, please let me know.

I got code PO303 on my 2006 ford freestar i just want to know what i can expect it to cost to fix

A P0303 code is a cylinder #3 misfire code. Usally a tune up, of plugs and wires fixes the problem. Normal cost is about $5 dollars a spark plug, about $85 in spark plug wires and around $100 in labor. So around $200-250 for the tune up. Then you'll need them to clear the check engine light, which may cost a diagnostic fee. If you haven't done a tune up in a while that would be the place to start. The other problem it could be is a fuel injector or a cylinder compression problem but those are unlikely. Hope this helps.

Rear main seal is leaking-steering is stiff and the struts need t

Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' (Service Engine Soon) light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE the problem and perhaps eventually fix the problem.
Go to and register( Vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you have access to shop manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, etc. about your vehicle.Take/Tow your vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership and pay the diagnostic fee... they will tell you exactly what the problem is and the cost of parts/labor to fix it... at least this way you'll know what the problem is and what's required to fix it.

2003 Kia Sedona Engine light is on

Your engine light come's on when your pcm (powertrain control module) senses a problem with the input of one or more of the many sensors on your vehicle, you can retrieve the engine light trouble code with a OBD II diagnostic tool, you can buy one at most auto parts store's, if you don't want to spend the money to buy one some auto part's store's will retrieve the engine trouble code's at no cost, for example auto zone, after retrieving the trouble code it should point you in the right direction for fixing the problem.
good luck,
hope this was helpful.
