Hood will not lock on 2002 Volvo S40

Check if the left and right hight adjustable stops are to high. If you put pressure above the latch and it works. This will most probably be the issue.

Check latches saab 900 convertible

no idea without a play but i would assume its a sensor somewhere playing up or the operating lever for the sensor has broke off or got bent

Hood does not close completely

Thank you for the inquiry.
Sometimes the latch will work loose from the top of the hood. It will usually be sitting in the opening that it latches too. If this is the case, just re-fasten it to the hood. Check for other interference (Screw driver handle in the way etc.....) confirm the fasteners on the hinges are tight and in alignment, and also make sure the receiver catch is fastened properly and aligns up with the latch pin. If your latch release cable is sticking get a can of graphite lubrication with the small needle nose nozzle and lubricate the cable and work it with the in the cab release lever until it frees up.
Hope this helps helps. Please keep us updated and remember to rate this answer.

When i close my hood it latches but does not close. i bought a new and it still does not work. is there a fuse for it that i am missing

Check that the rubber buffers have not moved up causing the hood to not come down fully. Also check that the bullet shaped catch has not come loose and moved up, preventing it from catching on the latching lever. Have a look that the latching lever that is pulled by the cable from the cab has not stuck, although you did say that you replaced the latch.

Warning light says the hood is open, but it's not.

I would replace the switch itself. It is likely dirty or faulty

Hood latch

Try spraying the latch mechanism with WD-40 or similar light oil and operating the release cable a number of times. Check the condition of the release cable if nothing happens. The latch itself may have a broken spring due to the low temps.

Hood won't latch completely. Cable has no tension. I have a 2001 Toyota 4 Runner. I'm afraid that it may fly open completely when I'm driving freeway speeds. Can anyone help?

The hood latch is one mechanism controlled by a spring. The cable is another mechanism to pull the latch. Open the hood to inspect the latch. If the spring of the latch itself is good then you don't have to worry about this after you close it. However you have to worry how to open it since the cable is not working. The cable has no tension due to a broken end. Need to replace the cable. The latch has 2 positions halfway and full way when closed. To have a peace of mind, have it halfway latched then tie a string from the hood latch to the grill for temporary until replacing the cable.

So I figured it was for the roof.. Anyway the sack has 2 straps to hold it up for more room when the top is UP. So I said "I Wonder...." I released the straps and the bag hung again, and GUESS WHAT? I have a broken hood latch and the hood is down

I think your cable came loose from the latch. try to see it through the grill, maybe you can get to it with a long flat tip screwdriver
