Question about 2006 Chevrolet Malibu
My friend has a 2006 Malibu with a 3.5L engine and has taken it to a deal, who told her the car is double starting, while turning the key once, now my question is can this be resolved they told her it was a normal issue with these cars, I have a little knowledge of mechanical and was wondering if it was a relay or the solenoid on the starter causing this issue, which is also hindering her automatic starter that came with the car, anyone have any advice or where to start troubleshooting, because the dealership wont fix it for her and she relies on her car for work.
They already gave it away. Calling it a "normal issue with these cars" should have set off alarm bells for you. They know there's a problem and are trying to hide from it-till any chance of a recall brings GM to the table. If it were as simple as a relay or solenoid, they'd be quick to fix it and double bill you for that! GM has been running from ignition woes on other vehicles. Maybe yours applies. Get on a Malibu forum and ask around. And don't ever, ever look for a dealership to have a change of heart. They do not have a heart!

SOURCE: 02 malibu won't start
If car won;t start, but turns over it may be the anti theft system. Follow the directions in the manual-turn the key on and leave it for ten minutes or until the anti theft light goes out. Turn the ignition OFF and then restart the engine. If you continue to have problems with the anti theft system, disconnect the battery for 4 or 5 minutes and then reconnect. It seems to reset the system. Found this out after a mech. had worked on the system, disconnected the battery and told me it would be 400 to 500 to replace the module. Said no thanks and drove off to never have the problem again (so far!) 10,000 mile since.

Have you changed the fuel filter? Did it die while driving, or just wouldn't start? Don't use starting fluid on a gas engine! It will cause a lot more problems than it solves. Ether, starting fluid is made for diesel engines... not gas, not ever. If it won't start, it isn't lacking ether. It's lacking gas, air or spark.

to reset anti theft system: turn key to on engine off. leave on for 15 to 20 minutes, then turn key off, leave off for 15 to 20 seconds, then try and start vehicle. this should reset system.

your cars antitheft system is trying to prevent the car from being stolen so it is shutting it offf after it starts. go back over step by step you installation instructions make sure the ring around the ignition that comes with the remote starter is taped into the exact loacation it needs to be, or the cars own anti theft system will not notice it and will try to shut car off. its an anti theft feature. if this doesn't wotk you will not be able to use this remote starter. i ran into the same problem finally got it to work poperly.
