Question about Cars & Trucks
You need to perform some detective work. Diagnostics is very important due to the new complex electrical systems. There can be a dozen or more reasons why it won't start. From your symptoms it sounds like a loose cable or connection going to or at the power distribution box. You should have power to everything when the key is in the "Run" position. I would start there and check for blown fuses too. The problem could also be a failure inside the ignition switch but I need to read more first to help you better. Please elaborate on your description about jump starting the SUV. Are you saying that the battery was dead or were by-passing the ignition switch? If the battery is dead you need to take care of that first. If you were by-passing the ignition switch. I need to know why the engine didn't crank over. This failure alone could be the battery, either battery cable, or the starter itself. Please write back and be as descriptive and detailed as possible. You are the eyes and ears of this vehicle. I'll do my best to help you narrow down this problem and hopefully solve it, good luck.

Had this yesterday on a 94 Voyager we were given. Disconnected the starter power wire (follow the red wire from the battery down). Cleaned terminal on starter, re-attached, started fine

Could very well be faulty relay, bad fusible link, or a fuse in general. You can trace the wiring or view a free repair manual at autozone.com to trace wires to find faulty device. You can use an ohmmeter or multi-tester to test relays and fuses.
