Water in oil makes the oil go grey / milky or white . Check the cooling system by a pressure test and if it is holding then it will not be water in the oil.. If you are referring to transmission oil then the tan colour indicates burnt oil, and must be replaced. Water in that oil will also be a white cherry/ milky colour.

watery coffee/cream colour is water in burnt oil not good fresh oil. Re[place the radiator as the oil cooler is in the tank of the radiator and may be leaking Have it pressure tested first

Oil a tan waterly color

Tan color... or creamy color is kind of a bad thing... But, before I panicked, I would change the oil and filter and start from a new beginning.... IF, after running it for a day or two, you again have a problem, you are somehow getting water or engine coolant into your motor oil.. and that can happen several different ways..... and most of the ways are "bad"... Good luck...

How do you know which head or gasget is blown/

Try this to see if helps you figure this out. Try filling up the radiator with water. Start your engine with the radiator cap off look for bubbles the bigger the bubbles the worse the leak. Look for tan colored oil on the dipstick. When oil mixes with water it turn a creamy tan color.

My 2002 impala have too much oil in my engine. ? How to drain it out ?

Remove the oil pan drain plug. If it is very over filled, check and make sure there is no water in the oil. If the oil is the color if coffee with milk (tan colored) then you definitely have water in it and most likely a leak in the head(s).

I have a 95 blazer thats leakin tan like oil can u tell me whats that problem its leakin on drive side

Hi :) Tan colour oil is water and oil mixed together or greenish tan is antifreeze and oil That sounds like a head gasket leak coming from the left bank of the motor.Check the dip stick it might be showing up in the oil too.Head gaskets are around $60.00 plus labour as long as the head is not warped or cracked.

2000 4 Cyl. 240+ compression on all Cyl. No water shows on the dip stick. Water and oil stand in all 4 plug wells. Coolant recovery tank is full of thick tan sludge of oil and water. Engine uses no oil but...

This doesn't sound good. I would change the oil and get a report of what drained out. If it's milky sludge too, you have water getting into the oil.
Did the engine run hot? A blown head gasket could cause this oil in water issue. If that's the case, you may be in for an inspection of the engine to see what degree of damage if any... this is major. Don't let it go unattended.
Man, I hope I'm wrong. Good luck!

We got stuck in high water the other nite, the van died and we couldnt get it to start so we had to be pulled home, now the van wont start, we took the starter and had it tested, and they said its good,...

If the starter was tested outside the car's engine and it worked , thn problem now could be the engine is not free and thus not rotating and the starter therefore can't rotate it too.
Try to rotate the engine by using a box spanner at the front crankshaft pulley and see if it's rotating (the motor).
