Sounds like the engine bearings (crankshaft) are worn. Try using a heavyer grade of oil, unless you want to rebuild the engine.

SOURCE: CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, AUTO ZONE SAYS COOLING FAN SHORTAGE

If the fuse is blowing there is too much resistance in the cooling fan moter. Replace JUST the cooling fan motor and the fuse. The A/C always turns the cooling fan ON when turned on. That is why the A/C messes up when the fan motor is bad. Replace the fan motor and the A/C problem will be fixed too. :)

SOURCE: Low oil pressure on 2001 Suburban

your oil sensor comes on at less than ten psi, you may have internal engine damage how many miles on engine, any gum up inside engine, you can try to put on a high pressure high volume melling oil pump to try to help for the time being, but you may need to have it torn and repaired.

As engines age, there is wear between the bearing surfaces which allows a greater oil flow and hence a lower oil pressure to these critical parts. If you notice that it is higher when it is cold and first started, and then it enters the red once it is heated up and at idle or at a stop light, you can assume that your engine some bearing wear that is preventing oil pressure to builed. 40PSI is OK at running and it is possible that you have other issues at work here such as a weak oil pressure relief spring, plugged sump pickup or other. For the simple fix, I would tend to trust the gauge and go for a slightly 'thicker' oil. If you are currently using a 5w-30 which is the summertime recommended oil for this car, try using a slightly heavier weight oil such as 10w-30. You could even bolster the pressure more by going to a 20w-50, but at some point, you are reducing the effectiveness of the splash effect of the oil on the piston oiler rings. Good Luck.

When cold, my 87 camry puts out 60-65 psi oil pressure. After it heats up, this pressure drops to 15psi and the oil light comes on. There is only about 70,000 miles on a rebuild with a new oil pump. C

If the sending unit is working correctly, I would say the oil pump or engine is failing.
You can replace the sending unit or have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge to verify.
Its also possible the engine oil is being diluted by gasoline or other liquids.

The oil pressure in an engine will naturally drop off as the engine warms up. If the oil pressure is dropping too much it could be cause by several things. I don't know how many miles your engine has on it but the oil pump may be getting weak and may need to be replaced. Worn out cam bearings or crank bearings can also cause low oil pressure. Sounds like your engine may be ready for a rebuild

Oil pressure gauge shows low / high / middle changed sensor did

Hello mb4494: My name is Roger and I will help you. If by changing the oil pressure sending unit the problem did not change. I would perform a oil pressure test. This is done by removing the oil pressure sensor and inserting a oil pressure gauge. This can be done by yourself or by a repair shop. This needs to be done on a cold engine. Start the engine and observe the oil pressure cold.as the engine warms up observe the pressure. The pressure will drop off as the engine warms up.Should the oil pressure drop below 10 to 12 PSI. then you have internal engine trouble. More then likely a bearing problem. Try dropping the truck into gear and see what the pressure drops off to. Again if the pressure drops below 10 to 12 PSI. you have a problem. I would also check to make sure you have the correct oil switch. a truck with a oil light uses a oil pressure switch. with a gauge you would use a oil pressure sending unit. Sorry for the long reply but want to make sure you check the pressure correctly. Please rate the quality of the answer as this is how we know the answer was correct. Thank You for using Fix Ya. No it is a fail safe. When your oil pressure drops below (on most cars) 30 psi your computer will shut your fuel pump down until you either let it sit for a while and it resets or until oil pressure builds again. Sorry!

check the engine oil level... you could possibly need to replace the oil pump soon... if you do not live in a cold climate i would consider using 30 or 50 weight oil. do NOT use that in a cold climate as the oil is like molasses when it gets cold.
that's only temporary. one other thing to consider is a clogged oil filter... when was the last time it was changed ?
