Question about 2008 GMC Acadia

1 Answer

While driving it feels like it is slipping when accelerating

Is it possible that it could be a sensor? The transmission was rebuilt by GMC just before the 100,000 mile warranty ran out?

There isn't a modulator on this trans as it is electronic

You can have first gear going forwrd but no reverse. It is possible. The low/ reverse clutch isn't needed to go forward.

It sounds to me like your transmission is not well. It's working when the fluid is cold but not as it warms up. Pull the dipstick and check your transmission fluid for color and smell. It should be pinkish and smell like oil. My guess is that it will be closer to brown than pink and have a burnt oil smell to it. It the transmission is full, check the level with the trans warm, engine running, in neutral.I'd be shopping for another transmission. If the fluid is below the add mark, you an usually buy yourself some time on the replacement by changing the trans fluid and filter. At the same time add a transmission treatment with the new oil,I've had good luck with Lucas. Hope this helps.

It is possible that the VSS sensor is faulty or the box is not changing properly. Check the oil condition and if brown and smells burnt then service the transmission. If it has not been serviced before then the mileage certainly indicates that it is well overdue.

the transmission was made to last 10 years of average driving. if it has not been rebuilt at least once already, it has more than done its job. yes they do not need to take it apart to know it needs rebuilt, and just maybe they have seen a couple thousand just like it.

I have a rebuilt 1992 Mercedes 190e transmission, but now the transmission feels like it's slipping when I hit the accelerator. Do I need to change the transmission fluid? How long does transmission last?...

Maybe not necessarily change the fluid, but check to see if the fluid level is up to spec on the stick. Many times it will just be the fluid level that makes the transmission slip. After checking the fluid level, check under the car to see if you have a leak somewhere because you just may be able to tighten the transmission housing yourself. Generally what happens is that when a major component of the drive train is rebuilt, the gaskets and sealers need to be seated, and after a couple of heat cycles, the gaskets expand and contract, leaving a slight leak in the housing. So maybe try to tighten the bell housing on your transmission. Good luck!!

1999 gmc sierra 2500, transmission slipping, no 2nd, 3rd or reverse

1st and 3rd only, no 2,4 or R; sun shell is fractured or splines are sheared off. Transmission must be removed to fix the problem and may have to be rebuilt or replaced.. Try not to run or drive the car or further damage could result.

Slow, slipping or no reverse: “lo-reverse” clutches are worn out, fluid leak in the reverse apply circuit, or broken sun-shell. It is possible to remedy a fluid problem by removing the check-ball from its cage in the case in the rear of the trans may help (must remove valve body), or adding a high-viscosity additive such as Lucas Transmission additive or other seal restorer product. May also have worn boost valve (can replace in the pan).

Seems transmission gear shift problem

Pull the distick and smell the oil. If it's discoloured (black or dark brown) you know the transmission friction plates are burnt and needs a rebuilt.
