That is a common problem with various locking mechanisms. Short of taking the whole works apart for service quite often reengaging the Hubs and then disengaging them will fully separate the locking mechanism and the noise will stop. But at some point you need to pull them apart and service the assembly.

SOURCE: 2002 f 250 super duty. i have a noise bearing like

I have a similar issue on my 2001 F250. Apparently there is a technical bulletin that describes cleaning the hubs to prevent small plastic engagement lugs within the hubs from partially engaging the hubs without being "instructed" to engage. This causes bearing-like vibration & noise. We cleaned my hubs at a local truck & car service shop (owned by neighbor) and the problem went away for 1 week. Its back now same as before. I don't have a solution and am thinking about trashing the factory hubs and going with maunal Warn hubs or equivalent. Anybody else have any solutions?

SOURCE: Clicking noise in front end or transfer case when

This sounds like the front hubs are trying to engage. This motor/4wd is real susceptable with vacuum problems. I let my oil get real dirty and it caused the low vac.The dealer performs vac test for front IWES (3c247) and found both of them leaking out of tolerance. This also caused damage on the splined contact points so they had to replace both front wheel hubs (1104)

most likely a thrush washer is at fault since the 4x4 kicks in for you
Have a trans shop give you an idea how much to repair before you grind this thrust washer to bits

My 2006 f150 makes a roaring sound at random times when driving and will not quit until completely stopped then you can feel something disengage.

when the sound starts check the temp gauge and see where it is at
I'm thinking that you have a viscous fan hub and it cuts in when standing at lights or slow traffic or heavy loads at slow speeds
it will keep running until the engine temp comes down or you switch the engine off
or it could be a electrical controlled fan and the noise on shut down is the relay clicking off

Four wheel drive out probable stripped makes rattling noise and does not work any more

there's a couple of things but it will require a transfer case rebuild
either it is the drive chain in the transfer case that broke or ford also installed a plastic shift disk that breaks about every 600 miles of 4X4 use it is part of the planitary set

My 1990 f150 truck wont start, its making a popping noise

If it sounds like backfiring you may have some spark plug wires mixed up.Also you may want to check the compression in the engine cylinders.

Makes a roaring sound while driving

Is the sound from the front or rear of the vehicle, can you tell? If front, check the fan clutch, etc. Can you "Feel" the noise in the steering wheel, or seat maybe, when you're driving?
Need more details- Thanks!

Grinding when turning right or left from a stopped position

Losing turning radius is normal for 4x4. The grinding can be from hidden rear emergency brakes in back of rear rotors. The front pads can make noise and the front hubs should be checked if you do decide on replacing the front brakes.
