Question about 1985 Ford F350

3 Answers

Hi I have a 1985 F250, it has the 7.5L 460 in it. It is automatic and 2 wheel drive. Yesterday it was running fine and later on in the day when I went to start it, it was like there was no power to the starter. So I started with the battery, I got it charged, checked the cables from the battery, they were nice and tight with no corrosion. Next I got the starter tested, it passed. I just got done changing the solenoid and there is still no power to my starter. I am out of Ideas and any will help. Thanks

Even though your batteries cables look good and are tight and you don't see corrosion, you may have a bad cable or cable end. I once had a brand new battery in a car and used my other vehicle to jump start it and I still couldn't get it started. I replaced the battery terminal ends and that was it. Any auto parts store you will be able to get a couple of battery terminal ends. Replace yours with the new ones. You have covered everything else. Good luck.

On the solenoid there is a small wire that gets 12 volts from the ignition switch.if the 12 volts is not there the solenoid will not turn on.if the solenoid is clicking, but the starter is not turning over and works when you bench tested it,that means you have a bad ground, more than likely from the engine block to the frame.use a jumper cable to connect to ground .before all that, put a wrench on the crankshaft bolt and make sure the engine can move....cheers

89 F250 460 door sticker says trans code "k" what

Transmission Types : Ford E4OD/4R100, 4 Speed, Automatic Transmission
Comments: w/ Shallow Pan = 20 bolt holes 4 speed

Drive Trains : Four Wheel Drive
Transmission Types : Ford C6, 3 Speed, Automatic Transmission =17 bolts 3speed

What does the dash indicator say and does the stick have an od button on it? there is only 1 3 speed for the 460 and only 1 4speed for the 460

Engines:{300, 302, 351w}, {400, 351m, 460}, {6.9L, 7.3L IDI}, {352, 360, 390, ect.}
Fluid:
Pre '77: Type F
Post '77: Mercon
Display: PRND21
Pan 17 bolts "Utah" shape
Ratios:
1st 2.46:1
2nd 1.46:1
3rd 1.00:1
Trans code: K

so you should have the 3 speed acording to the code

After pressing the 4 wheel drive button it just blinks a few times and stops then 2wheel drive lights comes on. 4wheel drive worked fine the day b 4

these damn things do this all the time, my 03 ? you cant count on it to work any day of the week ! you just get lucky and it works. I get all lights flashing, i get the nuetral light on yet it is in 2 hi. I'm tired of all the codes and replacing parts, 700.00 dollars later and still the same. I just drive it and it fixes itself in a day, maybe next time i start truck. It worked the best when i sealed all the electrical plugs in moisture proof wrapping, but a few months later and its a guess game again so i just drive it !

I have an automatic 4x4 it drives fine but will not reverse. Is this a gearbox problem ar something minor?

i have an 86' trooper and i put it into 4 wheel drive one day and reversed and it got stuck and wouldn't move until i put it back into 2-wheel drive and drove forward

the rule is your not supposed to back up when in 4x4 drive it's bad for the axles so when backing up put it into 2-wheel unless it's a major emergency. it's bad on all 4x4 cars, unless it's an awd car :] hopefully this helped
