Sound like the ignition switch is bad, of the relay to the Solenoid switch is bad.

check firing order that you put the wires on right then 1 at a time pluck the wires off and replace them when you do this each one it will make the motor shake a bit more, keep checking till you pluck on the wire that shows no change in the running condition and check that wire and plug to see witch one is bad

SOURCE: I have a 97' f150 4.2 eng 2 wheel drive pickup elect. problem

A fuse blown is a short, and a short is a ahort.
The fuse is the ecm so unplug the ecm and see what happens. If the fuse holds with theecm unplugged, then it is your ecm that needs relacement. If it still blows, The short is in the wiring.go to the parts store and pick up and automatic circuit breaker. It plugs in where the bad fuse goes. It will trip and reset itself automaticallly like a flasher until you have located the short. trick, Start with a breaker of amp. examole; if you took out a 20 amp, put in a 10 amp so the breaker trips faster, On and off quicker so you don't have to wait between ressets. If you want to trace the short by the wiring, put a 25 amp or with great caution a 30 amp. That is the limit. The wire will get warm on the 25 and even warmer on the 30. Pay attention that the wire does not get hot. Hopefully yhe 25 will get the wire warm enough for you to follow. Good Luck, Ned. This method is dangerous if you don't pay very close attention using the high amp breaker. There is a risk of fire if the circuit cannot handle 30 amps. In fact, only yuse the 30 amp breaker if the 25 breaks and resets too fast. Good Luck_Ned_

SOURCE: 98 ford explorer cranks but won't run.

Either the ignition switch or the fuel pump relay.
You got the pump to run once you bypassed the relay. Check it out

You should hear the fuel pump run momentarily when the key is in the Run position. Ensure the engine has a good spark by removing one of spark plug boots. Stick a phillips screwdriver in the boot, and hold the handle of the screwdriver, and allow the shaft near ground. (motor works best) Have someone crank the engine and look for a good blue spark arch from the screwdriver and engine. If your getting good spark, then check the fuel pressure on the fuel injection rail.

Where do I find the pcv valve on my 97 explorer

On a 4.0L or 4.6L V-8 engine, the PCV valve is on the back of the engine. Follow the black hose running to it just below the coil pack. On Explorers with a 3.0 L V-6, the PCV valve is on top of the engine on the right-hand side valve cover, installed in a rubber grommet with a black rubber hose running to it.

2001 Ford explorer quit running. It turns over. Replaced coil pack today still won't start?

With the drivers door opened turn the ignition key to the ON position and do not start the engine. You should be able to hear the fuel pump priming fuel up to the engine. If not heard the oil pressure switches third wire which attaches to the fuel pump is not directing voltage to it

97 Tarus wont start

recheck spark by putting a plug into one of the plug wires and place on valve cover, crank engine and see saprk in that plug. check fuel pressure during cranking to verify fuel supply. If you have no fuel pressure check fuses and fuel pump relay, in fuse box and power distribution box under the hood. If all are good check for power at the fuel pump connector with the key in start position, in run position the power will only be there for about 5 seconds, you are correct with fuel and spark it should run, let me know what you find

Engine will crank, but will not start.

I just had this same problem on my 96 Explorer XLT. Very random when it would do it, sometimes everyday for a week or nothing for 6 months. What I found was that when this happened, when I turned the key to the on position without starting the vehicle. That the check engine light should come on and if it doesn't, that means the the computer isn't powering up. What I had to do was leave the key in the on position and pop the hood, and on the passenger side of the engine compartment, there is a power distribution block, in there is a relay for the EEC Power Relay. Now with the key on I wiggled this relay and you can hear systems under the hood kick in. Relays turning on, etc nothing actually starting to scare you though. But this lets you know that the computer is alive and running. You should now be able to turn the key to the start position and the vehicle should no crank over, but now fire and run. It took me quite a while to figure this out because it was so intermittent. In the end, I replaced the relay for the EEC Power and everything has been fine since. When the new relay was in there I could not replicate this fault as I could with the bad relay. Hope this helps you.
