Is the bolt actually inside the motor or just inside the engine compartment? If it's just in the compartment and not anywhere near any moving parts that you can see then don't worry about it.

SOURCE: I'm trying to change oil

Hi,
Use a screw driver or and wedging tools. The rubberized seal gasket is still holding the oil pan, forcing it by wedging the sides will loosen up the oil pan.
Hope that helps you out.
Thanks for asking FixYa!

How do I change the oil pan gasket?

Whether it's an engine oil pan (called the 'sump'' in the UK) or a transmission oil pan the principle is the same on all vehicles.
1. Drain the oil

2. Remove the bolts holding the sump/pan in place:

change-oil-pan-gasket-mcgwfbeeztshkxy1nyom2hsg-4-1.jpg The oil drain plug, though depending on your vehicle it may look different:

Use a blunt screwdriver -if needed - and prise the oil pan free. remove all traces of the old gasket from the mating surfaces.

Use a smear of sealant to hold the new gasket in the correct position on the pan - this will hold it in place when you refit the pan.

Push the pan into position and put in a front bolt finger-tight. Then put in a rear bolt finger-tight.

Putting in the bolts finger-tight allows you to gently 'move' the pan if needed to put the bolts in one at a time.

When all bolts are in, tighten them with a wrench/socket. Then check them all again for tightness.

It isn't actually a big job .. more 'messy' because of the oil.

How do I remove oil pan / sump?

AutoZone has free repair manuals online. I would guess you are just dealing with a sticking gasket. If it does need help you should find separate holes that are threaded on the pan.

I wanna flush and change tr. oil at home.Is it hard?

no just takes about 1 hour you need to get a tranny filter and 6 quarts tranny fluid and a drain pan then you have 12 bolts holdin the pan in {trick if you only loosen 3 lower bolts you can control the flow of where oil comes out} then you take out old filter spray all bottom there with carb cleaner to clean out the gunk and scrape old gasket off then put in new filter and new gasket and put bolts back in then fill her up and your done you do need get a new gasket tooooo

Would like to change oil pan on 1990 ford crown vic 5.0 302 cu/in how do i begin

Before you do, why do you want to change the pan? OK then, consider the sump, is it front or rear? Do you have room to drop the pan 6 inches and get it out? The oil sump is at the bottom of the pan. If not, you have to pull the motor mount bolts out and jack up the engine. Then pull it out. When you put in the new pan, use no adhesive on the gasket, none. Bolt that baby up, drop the engine, tighten everything up, fill her up with oil, you should be all set.

Changing a sump on Jetta IV

You need VW silicone sealant D 176 404 A2.
  • Apply 2 to 3mm (1/8") bead of new sealant to oil pan sealing surface. Be sure to run bead on the inside of the bolt holes.
  • Immediately install oil pan to cylinder block and loosely install M7 bolts diagonally.
  • Install and lightly tighten M10 bolts securing oil pan to transmission.
  • Diagonally tighten M7 oil pan bolt further, but not final torque.
  • Diagonally torque M7 bolts securing oil pan to cylinder block.
  • Oil pan to transmission (M10)... 45 Nm(33 ft-lb)
  • Oil pan to cylinder block (M7)...15 Nm(11 ft-lb)
  • Wait 30 minutes as prescribed and refill with proper viscosity and quantity of engine oil.
