Question about 2004 Ford F150

Truck began shaking while driving but no engine lights. Not a tire problem or front end problem because while in neutral and stopped it shook like crazy

It is a transmission problem is it stopped when you put it in neutral

'96 4runner shaking problem


This problem is almost always related to worn front end steering components like bushings and tie rod ends or steering gear box wear. have a local tire shop thoroughly inspect the front end and see what they find. Many do this for free in hope of getting the fix job.

Distributor sensor replaced but car started to shake


If the sensor is in the dist, the dist shaft could be worn and slowly damaging the new sensor.
Could also be a new problem.

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited steering wheel is stiff and car is overheating


stopped in drive, engine shook is gross missing.
the belt snapped on front of engine, causing PS assist to end.
time for a new belt.
they last about 50,000 miles, best is to keep eye on belts.
or can be a long walk home.
or very expensive tow job.
the bent runs many important things, do not run the engine like this.

Hello, My thoughts are that someone needs to look underneath the truck from the front bumper to the rear axle. There are so many things that can cause this.

If the problem came after the truck was sitting a long time, you can have flat spots on the tires or rust spots on the rotors. As the rust builds up where moisture was held by the brake pads, the rotors will chaff against the pads until the rust is worn away. If the rust is thick enough, there will be rubbing and shaking without applying the brakes.

Check your U-joints. The U-joint to the front axle from the Transfer case seems to go out more from sitting than through use. Check the front hubs and CV joints and of course the rest of the U-joints. Look at the driveshafts for little square rust patches where balance weights fell off.

While driving at 40mph and shaking, slip the gearshift to Neutral and note if the shaking stops. Of course the truck will eventually stop, but you can feel if the shake was from the engine "Chugging" and better tell what direction the shake is coming from.

Check your tierods for excess play. I hope my solution helps you. I would be interested in knowing the end result.

take car to local part store they diagnose for free ....it might just need a tune the diagnose can tell you exactly what is causing the check engine light to come on

2004 Ford F-150, random thumping/jumping in front end


I have several comments. Because you mentioned 55MPH, this is a "cam phaser" engine and the part called a "cam phaser" stops affecting the engine from about 1200rpm to 2000rpm. The bad effects cause engine shaking and rough drive-train effects and when you stop the truck it will run smooth again.

The ideal test would be for you to coast at 55mph or when the shaking starts and go downhill to maintain speed. By putting the truck into neutral, you eliminate the motor problem and if the problem persists it is a tire, brake, or suspension problem.

You can have play in the tie-rod ends. I have noticed with Ford brakes that overnight rust can cause parallel rust spots where the brake pad contacts the rotor while the truck is parked. Until these rust mounds wear off, the shaking can be worse if the rust spots run parallel to each side. Some brake material is worse than others to cause this problem.

Bad belts or bent rims can magnify when both tires hit their low spots at the same time. You do have a spare which could be put on the front one at a time to see if you can find the bad wheel.

Bad hub bearings can cause this problem. Check for recalls. We had a leased Explorer with under 10,000 miles and it needed both hubs replaced for defects. You indicate you have less than 36,000 miles, a warranty threshold.
