2000 strattus stuck in 2nd gear

Replaced with used selenoid and ran okay for 2 weeks
took it to a tranny specialist who replaced new selenoid and ran okay for 2 weeks
now still stuck in 2nd and he wants to replace pcm (sending too much voltage??) to the tune of $500
any ideas

initially the code said the solenoid was bad which is why we replaced it. when the used solenoid only lasted 2 weeks we took it to a transmission "specialist" who put in a new solenoid from chrysler. it again worked for 2 weeks and now back in limp mode. the transmission guy then said we needed to replace the tcm and then changed his mind and now says it's the pcm sending 12 amps to the solenoid when it should be sending only 6 which is why the solenoids work until they are burned out???
    Make any sense???

If it is stuck in 2nd gear then the trans is in "limp mode" for some reason and a simple code reading should point out the problem. Sometimes a second opinion is very valuable.

The problem is either the input or output speed sensor for sure. If the speedometer works, then its the input speed sensor. The input speed sensor needs to be removed to replace the solenoid pack so that's probably why it worked for a few days, it was jarred and started working again. Try it first, its very cheap and easy to replace.

I have a 94 f150 4.9l with a 5 speed manual and lost 2nd and 3rd gear, would be greatful for any advice, took the shift lever out and reinstalled , did not help. What am I missing or looking for?

I'd be looking for a replacement 5 speed transmission. Does it not go into 2nd and 3rd, or does it go in but won't move? Either way, something broke or is wrong internally, maybe the synchronizer rings are badly worn if it is difficult to put in gear. Can you put it in 2nd with engine off, then start the engine and see if it will move in 2nd? New tranny. Will it not go into 2 or 3? New tranny. Buy a used one, or check the rebuild cost- probably prohibitive.

98 Neon, unplugged battery now tranny seems like its out??

because you removed the battery this sometimes corrupts the CPU program so use a scanner to reset the CPU and see if that fixes the problem.

The tranny was not the problem but a shift solenoid might be . Run a fault code check .

Poor Shifting

Well, if it was low on fluid, and it was driven for a distance, you could of wrecked the interior gears of the tranni or other parts. I'm not a tranni guy but I know if you run a vechile with low tranni fluid you're asking for a new tranni or to have that one rebuilt.

Transmission shifts slugish

Hey buddy i have a 94 accord and i replaced the transmission and had the exact same problem. But it took me burning up the new tranny that was stuck in fourth gear on a hill to find out that the shift solenoids on the front of the tranny were bad. They are very expensive, so your best bet is to get them from a junkyard. Also i was told that my transmission control module could be bad, its located under the passenger side dash board, under the carpet. But luckily my problem was the solenoids, but i still had to put a second tranny in.

I had this problem and dealer said I needed a new tranny. Took it for second opinion at local trans shop and they replaced the shift switch in the tranny for $250.

2000 caravan lound noise on acceleration...tranny???

The noise you could be hearing is gear noise. The gears could be whining as they turn. It could be the gears on the planets/hubs of the transmission "guts" that would be to far gone it they are making noise to matter. The only fix is tear down and replacing parts. The only pin that comes out is the differential pin which doesn't usually make noise if it creeps out slowly. It will just rub it's way through the bell housing and you'll see a leak. When it comes out not slowly......you'll know(BOOM!). Neither of which problems would effect steering or inherently be dangerous, just leave you stranded somewhere.

If you plan on fixing your tranny, stop driving and fix asap. The more you drive it, the more it will cost in parts. If you plan on buying a rebuild and using yours as a core, then by all means drive it until it quits if you like.

Shift problems in 95 chrysler concorde transmission

Sorry but if your reverse is having trouble you will probably have to replace or rebuild tranny like me. Otherwise try new filter and fluid first.
