Does your car normally require pressing the brake in order to shift from park? If so, perhaps the brake interlock switch is misadjusted or failing.

I have a 2001 Pontiac grandam. 2.4L 4 cylinder. It will not stay started. If you start it, it will start but while in park if you rev up the engine when it idles down it shuts off. Please help. All ideas...

I had a 01 grand prix GT, with very similar problem. I processed by way of eliminating the fuel pump, ignition module, catalytic convertor to determine it was 2 bad o2 sensors that didn't register on diagnostics. Hope this might be helpful, and good luck.
