Question about 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

1 Answer

Hi I have a dodge ram 1997. I have problems with getting my truck into Drive. Sometimes I have to drop down to first and then back up, still playing around with the slector to get to go. The gear indicator dial seems to be not lined up with the slector lever. The lever itself is not loose. Sometimes the Truck will not start in park. I have to put it in netural to start. But not all the time. Can any one offer any help on this matter?

99 Dodge Ram 4x4 owner here also, Most Auto parts stores will do a free plug and play diagnosis if You can drive Your truck to them, That will give You the problem codes and if the salesman knows His stuff He can tell You the coded problem meaning and what part/service is needed to remedy if any, might just need a reset, I eventually purchased a DB II tester for myself as I have multiple vehicles and cant always get to an auto parts store, Good Luck

Sometimes if you got a transmission that don't match the computer that controls it, you get this kind of problem. For example if you got a differenty year model from the original.

Hi,
If you do have access to a reasonable tranny shop they are able to preform certain pressure tests to narrow down the problem. Sorry I could not be of more direct assistance. Best Wishes, Wayne

Steering problem 1997 Dodge Ram V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 97000 miles I have replaced all the front tie rods.My steering wheel has alot of play in it, is that caused by power steering gearbox?...

the half shaft does not need to go in a certain way, Just as long as you get it in all the way. when checking steering play to see where it is. It's best to leave the truck off. Turn ignition on but dont start to unlock steering column, Then look by driverside tire while your buddy just turns the wheel only the amount of free play it has. Just back and forth usually a few inchs. till it starts getting tight. "Look at the steering shaft and you will see it turning back and forth. Then Look at the output on the pitman arm. It should move back and forth with steering shaft. slower but at the same rate. If it does not. you need a gearbox. but read up because you can adjust some of them with a locknot and screw on top of box. If it's ok. look at the drag link. And down the line. eventually you'l find the problem. Any more Q e-mail me at gethuge8@yahoo.com

sounds like you should start by dropping the pan and changing the filter, put cheap fluid in it or reuse the old fluid if its not too bad bring it to a shop and have a transmission flush performed with a good flush machine your valve body is sticking and this should clear things up please rate -jeff
