SOURCE: my security light comes on and i can't start my car

your car security system can not be disable but it can be bypass

but firts on these models it is the pass key the problem

on your key to strt the car you have a little round black thing with a little metal contact this is a resistance that is in your key when you put it in the hole to start your car it mesure the ressistance
and the you can start your car

the usual problem with this system is that in the ignition key lock cylinder there are two wire
and usualy one of the two wire just cut so i would remouve the stearing wheel and get that wire fix

hope that will help you !!!

the way to bypass the system is easy but you need to realy know what you will be doing

first you mesure the ressistance in the key in (ohm) and second get a ressistance the same value from any places that sells electronics

after you will find in your car the passkey decoder module (behind right side of i/p)
the two wires that come out of the box (B7 ppl/wht and B8 wht/blk)
cut these two wires and weld the ressistance in bettwen
this way you won t have to take your stearing appart
and your system will be bypass for ever

great day to you

SOURCE: need to bypass triad security system - car wont start

There are several configurations of the same security system. But one sure fire way to correct this issue is to get a bypass kit. Any shop that installs remote startups has the ability to bypass this system. Since the sytem measures the resitance of the key/lock and asociated wiring any shorting of those wires will make it very difficult to defaet without some expertise.

Sometimes the remote atart kit also includes the bypass, so you can get two for one here.

Good luck

GM Passlock Security System

Many FixYa posts are asking for ways to bypass the security system and immobilizer. This is what you are up against and explains how the system works. Thanks to our FixYa Professional Vehicle Electronics Wizard Jeff Armer for the factory explanation.

Passlockâ„¢ System

The Passlockâ„¢ System is provided in order to prevent vehicle theft if the ignition lock cylinder is forced to rotate or the ignition switch is operated while separated from the ignition lock cylinder case. If starting is attempted without authorization from the Passlockâ„¢ System, the powertrain control module (PCM) will disable engine starting. Start disable may be in the form of fuel disable or starter disable, depending on engine application.

The components of the Passlockâ„¢ System are as follows:

• The ignition lock cylinder and key

• The ignition lock cylinder case, including the Passlock™ sensor

• The ignition switch

• The body control module (BCM)

• The security indicator on the instrument cluster

• The powertrain control module (PCM)

Ignition Lock Cylinder Case, Including the Passlockâ„¢ Sensor
The ignition lock cylinder fits inside the ignition lock cylinder case and operates the ignition switch when turned by a key with the proper mechanical cut. When the ignition key is used to turn the ignition lock cylinder to crank, start, a magnet on the lock cylinder passes close to the Passlockâ„¢ sensor within the ignition lock cylinder case. The magnet activates the security hall effect sensor in the Passlockâ„¢ sensor which completes a circuit from the security sensor signal circuit through a resistor to the security sensor low reference circuit. The resistance value will vary from vehicle to vehicle.

If a magnet from outside of the ignition lock cylinder case is used to attempt to steal the vehicle, the tamper hall effect sensor will be activated. This completes a circuit from the security sensor signal circuit through a tamper resistor to the security sensor low reference circuit bypassing the security resistor. If the ignition switch is forced to rotate without the correct key, or if the ignition lock cylinder is removed by force, the Passlockâ„¢ sensor will be damaged and will not operate.

May forums suggest connecting a resister into the transponder receiver circuit, but jumping a 2200 ohms resistor into the wiring of the pass-lock system will do nothing.

Anti-theft system transceiver ?
Theft Deterrent System
The Theft Deterrent System on this vehicle is comprised of two separate systems, the Personal Automotive Security System (PASS-Key?® III) and the Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) system. These system are described and diagnosed separately within this section. For CTD operation, refer to Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) Description .
SECURITY Indicator The yellow indicator SECURITY on the instrument cluster is controlled by both the PASS-Key?® III system (VTD module) and the CTD system (RIM).
?€¢
PASS-Key?® III system, the VTD commands the instrument cluster to control the indicator only when the ignition switch is ON.

?€¢
CTD system, the RIM commands the instrument cluster to control the indicator only when the ignition switch is OFF.
PASS-Key?® III System The PASS-Key?® III system is designed to help prevent vehicle theft by disabling the engine unless an ignition key with a specific electrical value is used in the ignition lock cylinder. The PASS-Key?® III system operates independently of the CTD system. Protection is provided even if the CTD system is not armed. The components of the system are the ignition keys (black or gray), ignition lock cylinder, Theft Deterrent (VTD) module, Reader Exciter, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and two starter relays (START 1 and 2) in the underhood fuse block.

Whr is my fuel pump reset button on my 2003 grand am? Its security lock, it wont get any fuel. It cranks but wont start. Not getting any fuel. First time ever happening

There is no reset button.
The problem could be the anti-theft system which would knock out the injectors and spark to the plugs.
If the security light is staying on, the problem could be the chip in the key.

How to disable security system on 2001 firebird

It is tied into the pass-key system that disables your car as part of vehicle security. You would have to by pass the pass key system which would make it vulnerable to theft as any duplicate key or broken ignition could start the car. In my estimation if it ain;t broke don't fix it or you might wind up with an inoperable car. There is more than mechanics involved ...codes and software programmed into the bcm will disable the starter, pump and injectors.

How do I disable security system on 2001 dodge caravan

Check your mechanics manual. There is most likely a sequence of times you must turn your vehicle on, then turn the key back one click. you can actually hear the module trying to reprogram itself. If a vandal was at fault and damaged anything, you may have to take it to a mechanic. My daughters Chevy Venture was stolen and destroyed. Little by little we put things back in order..glass/modules/ignition etc. I was not able to reset the system, and had to take it to a dealer. Still cheaper than a replacement van though. Good Luck! :)

I have a 98 monte carlo 3.1 auto trans. when i turn the key to start, the security light flashes and it does nothing

Have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . I suspect the problem is with the tdm module or the ignition switch ???? Assuming will only get you into trouble . If the PCM - engine computer does not see the right coded meassage from the TDM it won't turn on the fuel injectors or it will cut them off in two seconds . .
Buick Security Systems 1998 Chevy is the same .
Ignition Key With Wrong Resistor Pellet Code is Used To Start Engine
The theft deterrent module performs one of the two following actions when you attempt to start the vehicle with a wrong ignition key:
• There are 15 PASS-Key® II resistance ranges. The PASS-Key® II resistance may be one of the 14 valid but incorrect PASS-Key® II resistance ranges. The theft deterrent module will perform the following actions when you attempt to start the vehicle (if the condition is present during an engine start attempt or for 1 second any time after the engine has started):
• Turns on the SECURITY indicator
• Sends a password to the PCM through the fuel enable signal circuit
• The password disables fuel delivery to the engine.
• Disables the theft deterrent relay, which disables the starter circuit
• Disables sampling of the PASS-Key® II resistance for 3 minutes
• The 3 minute time period is called the shut-down period.
• Disconnecting the battery will not clear the timer sequence. The timer sequence will resume when battery power is restored.
• Inserting the proper key during the vehicle shut-down period will not start the engine. The engine will not start until the shut-down period has elapsed.
• After the shut-down period, the engine will start if the correct ignition key resistor pellet is used.
• The PASS-Key® II resistance may be correct and allow the engine to start. Later during the same ignition cycle, the PASS-Key® II resistance may be one of the 14 valid but incorrect resistance ranges. The theft deterrent module will perform the following actions:
• Enters the fail-enable mode
• Turns ON the SECURITY indicator
• Sends a password to the PCM through the fuel enable signal circuit when more attempts to start the engine occur
• The password allows the fuel enable circuit to deliver fuel to the engine.
• Enables the theft deterrent relay, which also enables the starter circuit.

Ignition Key With Correct Resistor Pellet Code is Used To Start Engine
The theft deterrent module performs the following actions when the correct ignition key is used in order to start the vehicle:
• Enables the theft deterrent relay. The theft deterrent relay enables the starter unit.
• Sends a password to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) through the fuel enable signal circuit. As a result, the PCM allows fuel delivery to the engine.

Starting

I had this same problem & cause was an aftermarket security system that was disabled by previous owner but never removed & therefore backfed 14.5volts into ignition system over time & destroyed it.Fix is replace ignition control module, computer control module & ignition wiring harness, also I must add that reprogramming is also required for modules & both keys.Unless you know a GOOD GM mechanic who will do this on the side & get you the parts at his cost, this is a COSTLY fix at dealer $900-$1200,about 6-8hrs labor.
