SOURCE: cooling fan

Whoever told you the temperature gauge on cavalier is normal 3/4th is the lie. It is however in operating temperature range but on the hot side. Have you flushed your coolant and replaced thermostate, and gotten air vapor locks out.

SOURCE: temp gauge off charts

Are you mistaking the engine temp sensor for the engine temp sending unit? The temp sensor is for the fuel injection system and the temp sending unit is for the gauge. If you asked for a sensor thats what they sold you. You need to ask for a sending unit.

SOURCE: chevy cavalier 2005 speedometer stuck not working

This is most likely not a speed sensor problem, I see this a lot on 03-05 Cavalier instrument clusters and it's always the same. It's caused by failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board and it can be fixed. Check out this page for more about how to get it fixed - cavalier speedometer fix

SOURCE: speedometer needle maxed out and won't go back

It`s not the speed sensor. If it was the speed sensor it would not work or would not be accurate. If it is stuck then it is the cluster. You can try tapping on the top of the instrument panel and see if it will come back down.If not then you will have to replace the cluster. If you have under 70k miles the you can get this done at the dealership for free.If you have over 70k but not over 80k they will replace the cluster but you have to pay for the labor.Which includes replacing and programming.Even if you get a used cluster you still have to have it programmed by the dealership or the vehicle will not start.Hope this helps.Good luck.

2004 mazda mpv engine racing and cooling fan not working

coolant temp sensor tells the computer how hot or cold the engine is so it can regulate the idle and fuel mixture, when it fails there usually is no cooling fan and you will have trouble starting the engine and keeping it running.

Chevrolet Cavalier 2004 quits running while driving down the highway.

need to check fuel pressure, not just listen for pump to run, also check reading on coolant temp sensor, but sounds like fuel pump /filter issue. just because you hear pump run doesnt mean its putting our right amount of pressure. also check for plugged catylic convertor

2004 chevy cavalier wouldnt start replaced fuel pump, filter, checked fuse and relay . Started up drove about 20 miles then went out to start it and wont start fuel pump not pressurizeing

Check your O2 sensors. They will give that affect and work only when your engine heats up. If the car cools down and starts up again, that is a sign that your O2 sensors are shot. Replace them.

Car overheats in slow traffic. If the air conditioner is turned on, car cools. Fans seem to come on, but only come on high speed with air conditioner.

Check your coolant temp sensor its most likely bad. Just keep in mind that they sometimes have two of them one for the gauge and one that turns on the fan. The sensor is most the time in the head of the engine.

2004 Toyota Camry keeps dying while driving but it starts right back up. Replaced fuel pump and air filter but it's still doing it. Someone said it may be the catallytic converter? Does that sound right?

You may have problem with your cooling system. Follow these simple steps to try to rectify the problem:

1. Write down the code of your radio.
2. Allow the engine to cool down. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
3. Locate the ECT-engine coolant temperature sensor. It is located to the right of the engine head-cover, by the metal hook. The number two sensor with black wire connector. You will see the large coolant hose connecting to its body. That's the ECT.
4. Depress and pull out the wire plug.
5. Use a deep socket with wrench to remove the sensor.
6. Replace the ECT, reconnect the plug wire and the battery negative terminal.
7. Crank up the car again and test drive.
