If the P is not showing I can not get my van to start up. I have started disconnecting the battery and allowing it to sit a bit then reconnect battery and try starting up again. Sometimes works some times not
Maybe check to see if the neutral safety switch is malfunctioning. there should be an adjustment on the top of the transmission that is a small L-shaped bar that moves. If it is not adjusted correctly, the shifter may be in park, but the actual transmission may be between park and reverse, thus making it not register that it is in park and the neutral safety switch engaged to say it is safe to start.
If the shifter is on the column, try holding up on the shifter just a little as you try to start it, if this seems to work, that transmission linkage needs to be adjusted. Also try to start in Neutral, if this works, which not always on some models, then most likely is the linkage needing to be adjusted.
Hope this helps.

you need a pcm heat it with a hair dryer its located above the engine in on the fire wall in the middle its a black box with vents and wires heat it up and it will start common prob hard to get less than 250 its 95 only the symtoms are cold days turn key get all dash iliminations exeptt check engine light eventually you her the to relays mounted next to your battery start clicking and if you watch your dash the check engine light will eventually flicker and stay on and it will start if you start it with the relays clicking it will sputter because the relay clicking is for your fuel pump and auto shut down relays let me know how it works out [email protected]

sounds like your neutral safety switch is not installed properly on the transmission or the shifter linkage is out of adjustment
take it back to the shop that just did the transmission rebuild and tell them what the problem is
if nothing else they need to fix the shifter not showing the correct gear

1st is the batt. old? second it could be the batt. cable ends when you jumped it the jumping vehicle made a connection the third poss able option is the starter
however if the batt. is old and bad it will make the computer scramble and fail to fire up even if it rolls over, disconnect batt for 2 min. jumping will not hurt it iether as long you are doing it in a safe way

The shifter cable is adjustable in the column. Remove the column covers and see if you can adjust the cable. You problem is with the cable.
