Hello,
I have a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero and for the past year and a half I have been having the same issue with the security system. I have been stranded on several occasions for more than 2 hours trying to get the car to start. It?s scary at night when no one is around and you are waiting to start your car. I am so fed up with it I would like to push it off of a cliff. I can?t get an American to talk to me when I called GM and either it?s the plan to discourage us not to call or to hang up after getting absolutely NOWHERE. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I am really getting upset and tired of having to get up 2 hours early to make sure the car starts for work. I have to work all my schedules such as grocery shopping, regular shopping, Etc. around the problems with the car, as not to get stranded late at night.
I think what you are describing is a fault in the on-board anti-theft circuit. When you start the engine, and the problem occurs, Do you notice a light on the gauge cluster that starts flashing. It will either read "Security" or would be a picture of a lock. If you confirm this then you may need to have the ignition switch replaced. An ignition switch failure is the most common failure but it does not promise that your car will be fixed if you replace it. Other problems could be causing this problem but that would require your car to be diagnosed at your local GM dealer. If by chance, you were referring to your "Car Alarm" them that changes everything. After Market car alarms can be troublesome. They are an add-on and do not offer any assistance with diagnostics. When they fail, you have it uninstalled or replaced. Personally, I think they are a waist of money. I hope both of these comments help you. If you have other questions, please write back. I will be more than happy to answer any of your questions. If so, please try to be as detailed and specific, as possible. Good luck.
