Unless there is a problem the instructions are very clear on a decal at the cab release point. If it is hydraulic ensure that there is oil in the reservoir and that all locks are released . If it is necessary ensure that the gear lever is released and in the correct position. Go to a service centre for trucks and seek advice

No, if it was snug against the cab it would rub, make noise, cause a rust point, etc..etc.. the bed must be sitting on the frame by itself..it allows flex and movement when it's loaded and when the truck's frame is tweaked while off roading.,, this couldn't happen if the bed was against the cab.

Sounds as if you got it wrong somehow. Usually there is a chart under the hood showing this. If not, get a shop manual or ask the dealer for a diagram, or perhaps someone else here may have better knowledge.
