Some horns, more specifically the older ones, have an adjustment screw which allows you to change the tone. It is usually a screw with a lock nut and very little adjustment makes a sonsiderabledifference to the sound. The location of the horn and the type and tightness of the brackets make a difference to the sound as well. Try taking a lead straight from the battery to the horn and see if the sound improves, if it does, replace the horn relay. If nothing helps you will have to replace the horn, but be careful, some after sales horns could sound worse than the original supplied equipment.

Hostile takeover?

If you bought it new, it should have what you need. If not, A couple of 'L' brackets ought to do it.

• You mount the Horn
• Mount the pump close enough to the horn for the air hose to reach
• Make sure the pump is grounded
• Run the hot lead from the pump through the firewall and attach it to a momentary switch.
• Run the other pole of the switch to a +12VDC source

IF YOU HAVE A HORN SWITCH FIND THE HORN WIRES IN THE CAR AND CONNECT SWITCH TO THEM

Locate the horn under the hood, probably near the front of the vehicle near the headlights. Tap with a hammer or wratchet. If this does not work, disconnect the wire that is attached to the horn itself and then replace the horn before your next State inspection.

Their are usually in back of grille or on the underside of rails. you will need to take off the front bumper to get access.

The horn pad is warped from heat (from the sun), this causes the horn contacts to touch, very common issue on the Protege.
