No power to my ignition switch on my 1990 Pace Arrow

I was replacing the Ignition Switch below the key switch on the column whe I heard a loud spark as I was trying to line up the rod that comes down the column from key switch to the hole in the ignition switch so it would be in the right position. After I heard the spark or pop , there was No more power to the ignition switch, or the head lights. There is power to the tail and parking lights. I checked all the breakers, and fuses under the hood and the relays and fuses under dash that I could find and everything seems to be good...Help...Thanks...Jack

Check your fuseable links under the hood.
Fuseable links are wires that have a fuse between them that blows to protect the vehicle electrical system. When blown it cuts off all power that start the vehicle.

What makes a 1988 F150 trucks ingnition stay engaged

Most likely the ignition switch or the rod in the steering column is sticking and keeping the switch engaged, possibly the ignition lock cylinder is sticky too. Easy to get lock cylinder out with a small punch that depresses a pin when the lock cylinder is in the run position, look under the steering column by the switch for a hole to poke the punch into and then pull out the lock cylinder.

No Power to Ignition Switch on 1990 Pace Arrow/Ford 460-v8

defintely sounds like fuse or relay. also could be relay for your headlights thats runs to the ignition switch as well. trace your wires from ignition switch out through the firewall and see where they go. may need to have second person help. Wherever the wires go is prob your problem. Most likely a relay. also check for any hot wires loose touching thats shortening the circuits.

My starter selenoid was buzzing when I turned the ignition on. Then I tried to repeat the proceedure and noticed I had no power the vehicle at all. The battery was fine so I replaced the selenoid and...

In this truck the problem you have is many times caused by a defective Ignition Stater Switch, this switch is what is operated by the key via a long rod, the switch is located at the bottom top of the steering column, it sits on two studs and is held in place by two nuts, the switch goes over the end of the rod, the rod moves the switch contacts to provide power to the truck electrical system when you turn the key. The problem with these switches it that they come apart at the metal tabs that hold the two halves together, then the contacts don't mate up and no power, Ford recalled many of the Trucks that used this design of switch for this reason (you can call a Ford dealer to determine whether you qualify for the recall by the VIN of your truck). The switch is easy to replace and very cheap to buy from any auto parts store.
To replace the switch remove the lower dash panels below the steering column tube, remove the 2 15mm nuts on studs that hod the column up, and slowly drop the column part way, the remove the shift indicator cable clip from the steering column tube cover then drop the column down lay it on the seat then you can easily access the switch, here is a picture of the switch and how it separates to cause the power loss, this is shown in the right hand side of the image below..

2003 DOGE NEON IGNITION .LIGHTS, POWER COMES ON BUT CAR WILL NOT START AFTER I PLAY WITH IGNITION SEVERVAL TURING AND PUSHING IT IN SEVERAL TIMES IT THEN STARTS

replace the ignition switch
The ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is operated by a linkage rod.
NOTE On column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not normally visible. On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is accessible under the dash.

  • Unbolt it from its position.

Ignition switch installation-1984-90 models

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the steering column cover.
  3. If equipped with automatic transaxle, position the gear selector into DRIVE and disconnect the indicator cable.
  4. Remove the lower panel reinforcement.
  5. Drop the steering column for switch replacement.
  6. Disengage the wiring connector from the ignition switch.
  7. Position the ignition lock cylinder into the LOCK position.
  8. Tape the ignition switch rod to the steering column to prevent the rod from falling out of the lock cylinder assembly.
  9. Remove the screws attaching the ignition switch to the column jacket.
  10. Remove the ignition switch by rotating the switch 90 degrees and pulling up to disengage from the rod.
To install:
  1. Rotate the switch 90° and push down to engage the rod.
  2. Install the screws to the ignition switch mounting plate but do not tighten.
  3. Remove the tape holding the rod to the column.
  4. Adjust the switch by pushing up on the switch to take up rod system slack. This must be done with the key cylinder in the LOCK position and the key removed.
  5. Tighten the screws attaching the switch to the column.
  6. Connect the wiring connector to the ignition switch.
  7. Install the steering column.
  8. Install the steering column cover.

How do I change the ignition switch in my 1990

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2. Place lock cylinder in the Run position.
  3. Remove steering wheel.
  4. Remove turn signal switch. It is not necessary to completely remove the turn signal switch from the column. Pull switch rearward enough to slip it over the end of the shaft. Do not pull the harness out of the column.
  5. Remove attaching screw and lock cylinder set. Do not drop the screw into the column.
  6. To install, align cylinder key with keyway in housing, as shown in Fig. 1. Push the lock completely inward, install attaching screw and torque to 40 inch lbs., on standard columns, or 22 inch lbs., on tilt columns.

Need to change the ignition switch

Remove panel under steering wheel. Put key in cylinder and turn back to accessory position. Looking under lower part of steering column locate a small pin under the key cylinder. While depressing the pin turn the key backwards and pull the entire cylinder with key out of column. Good luck.

To install:
  1. To install the lock cylinder, turn the key to the LOCK position. Insert the lock cylinder in to the housing far enough to contact the drive tang. Force it inward and move the ignition switch actuator rod up and down to align the components. When the components align, the cylinder will move inward and the spring-loaded retainer will snap into place locking the lock cylinder in the housing.
If the lock cylinder is retained by a screw, tighten the screw to 40 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
