Not much point replacing the fuel pump until the supply and ground has been checked and found to be ok.
Gauge sender might share the same ground...
If the fuel gauge sender and fuel pump share the same space, replacing the pump provides the ideal opportunity to test the gauge unit with an analogue ohm meter.
check your fuel pump relay. if not that, then it's your fuel pump. the gas gauge is in the fuel pump, so if your fuel pump stopped working, your gas gauge won't work
Putting gas has nothing to do with you fuel gauge problem
Must problems to add fuel and comes out can be cause by air flow in the tank, also it is recommended to fuel with the engine turn off so the pressure from fuel pump going back to the tank will not affect the fueling , about you fuel gauge not working properly can be cause by a electrical problem such wiring or defective gauge or can be fuel sender problem with most the time it is install on fuel pump assy.
your fuel sending unit has went bad you can either replace it which is in the fuel tank (attached to the fuel pump) or wait for the fuel pump to go out
Is this a flex fuel vehicle. If so, call the dealership and ask the parts dept. if there is a gauge module (perhaps behind the instrument cluster). This may be the culprit and needs to be replaced.
If you're fuel gauge stopped working, this would not affect the fuel pump or pump relay. More then likely, the sending unit is at fault. You may check fuses to see if this vehicle has a fuse for the gauge. some do. The fuel pump has a relay under hood and also a 30 amp fuse.Has separate circuits for gauges.I would be looking at the sending unit. Good Luck, Sinserely, shastalaker7
