When you shake the tire to see if it has play, it does and it makes a sound which made me think it it was the main bearing. I jacked it up and looked at it and it was fine. I don't know what is. Please help!!!!

- I am sorry. I meant the rear axle. If you need more information about it, let me know.

Get a second person to move the tire back and forth watch to see where the movement is once you identify the part go to the local parts store that have pictures of the front axle and show them where it's loose. and you will need to replace the part and get an alignment. It could be any of the following connecting rod, tie rod end, stabilizer arm or drag ling joint bad. if it was up and down then it would be king pins or wheel bearing loose.

- if it's the rear axle then you need to check the wheel bearings. remove wheel remove brake drum and shake the wheel from left to right does it move? if so where? between the wheen bearing or the struts taht hold it on to the car?
