SOURCE: 2006 Ford Explorer "Oil Change Required" light is still on after changing the oil

IF YOU FIND THIS INFO USEFUL PLEASE RATE ME AS A FIXYA! THANKS

Oil Change Reset
A press of the OIL CHANGE RESET switch will allow you to
reset the oil life feature to 100% (or your Personalized Oil Reset
Percentage). After you have the oil changed, you must execute
the following procedure. Press the OIL CHANGE RESET switch
and hold for five seconds as the M/C counts down for five
seconds. After a successful reset the Message Center will display
“OIL LIFE RESET TO 100%.” If you have established a
Personalized Oil Reset Percentage, the display will show that
percentage instead of 100%. To ensure accurate oil life
indicators, perform this reset procedure only after an oil change.
Your Personalized Oil Reset Percentage allows you to establish a
smaller oil change interval than the manufacturer’s
recommended interval. To establish your Personalized Oil Reset
Percentage perform the following procedure:
1. Press and hold the OIL CHANGE RESET switch and press
the RESET switch while the display is still counting down
the 5 seconds to reset. The display will change to “START
OIL LIFE AT XXX%.”
2. Press the OIL CHANGE RESET switch until the displayed
percentage is the Personalized Oil Reset Percentage that you
desire. Your choices are 100%, 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, 50%,
40% and 30%.

2002 Ford Explorer 4.6 liter 4x4. How to fix flashing OD light on the vehicle.

The "let's try replacing this" method of vehicle repair is costly and often very frustrating. The best way is to take it to a transmission specialist, they hook up their scan tool computer and the diagnostics program communicates with modules and sensors and can also operate solenoids and servos to test them.

The vehicle does have a known history of this issue.

Iam no mech but is it hard 2 change the motor n transmission mounts in a 96 ford thunderbird 3.8 engine if it is whats the going price 2 do so i dont get taken

It is fairly easy to do if you have a lift, but it is possible to do on the ground with a jack and jack stands. You will need to be able to unbolt both sides of the mount and support the engine with the jack while you replace the mounts. If you download the autozone app to a smart pone or tablet it will give you a repair estimate calculator,

1996 ford explorer engine number location

If you still have the original engine in the vehicle the engine can be identified by the 8th digit in the Vehicle Identifiaction Number (VIN) which is located on the dash at the bottom left of the windshield (best viewed from outside of the vehicle.
The letters N or P indicate a 5.0 liter engine.
The letter X indicates a 4.0 liter V-6 engine.

I hope this helps.

Hi idil then died wont fire up

The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems.

How much would it cost to replace the freeze plugs between the transmission and engine on a 1996 Ford Explorer?

You would need to provide more information for an exact estimate such as auto or manual trans, trans model and engine size. I'll assume it's the most popular 4.0L with an auto trans and 4x4. The book time to remove the transmission (depends on which labor book) is 5.8 hours plus .3 flywheel removal plus approx .5 to replace the plugs. The cooling system will have to be purged of air .8 and the coolant should be replaced. Multiply 7.4 hours times the shop rate example: $99.00 per hour would be approx. $740.00 in labor plus parts. Freeze plugs are cheap and coolant will be approx. $25. Good luck :o)
