The rear seat latch doesn"t work and has the seat locked in the up position. I think I need to take the plastic cover off and then figure out what's wrong with the latch.

Russ, thanks for replying. It turns out that there is small plastice cap in the release lever that was missing. When I installed the cap for the other side it works perfectly. I'll just get a new cap and i should be good to go.

SOURCE: Jeep Commander Rear Brake Pad Installation

Per Chilton Auto repair manual:

Removal & Installation

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the rear wheel.
  3. Siphon a small amount of brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  4. Insert a small prybar through the caliper opening and pry the caliper cover (using the outboard brake pad) to bottom the piston in the caliper bore.
  5. Remove the caliper slide bolts.
  6. Remove the caliper from the anchor.

WARNING Support the brake caliper with mechanics wire. Do not let the caliper hang by the brake hose.
  7. Remove the brake pads from the caliper.
To install:
  1. Install the brake pads onto the caliper.
  2. Lubricate the slide pin bolts with grease provided with the brake pads, or suitable silicon grease equivalent.
  3. Install the caliper on the anchor and tighten the slide pin bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4. Install the rear wheel.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Pump the brake pedal several times until a firm pedal is obtained in order to properly seat the pads.
  7. Refill the brake fluid reservoir to the proper level.

This sounds like one of those jobs where you will have to resort to a whole day with a long flat blade screwdriver fishing around and rattling the seat back trying to 'trip' the release for the seat back. Any other option will probably involve deliberately breaking something to fix it.

2006 Jeep Commander. Driver's seat will not adjust. Only half of seat adjusts. The right side of seat is moving, left side of seat will not move. Nothing under the seat. Any suggestions?

If it's a manual seat mechanism, search for the lever/latch that releases the seat on its track. If power seat, check the fuse for that circuit and work from there.

Third row seat latchs are broken and seats stuck in upright possition

There is a plug (cap) that goes into the pivot point of the release handle for the third row seats. If that plug is missing, you can stick a penny in there temporarily to enable the release and fold the seats down. The replacement part is called a "release handle plug" -- I found it at moparpartsovestock.com, part number 1ED82BD1AA for under $4.

My wife removed the rdiver side rear seat from a

This happened to me the other day! My husband took into Kia dealership only to be told they'd need it for a few hours, might have to take the whole seat apart, then resulting in labor charges!
This morning my dad came over with solutions he'd found online involving the use of a broomstick or rake. That didn't work. You first have to slide the whole seat in the forward position, so the metal tracking behind the seat is exposed. Next locate the cable cord on the inside of this track. My dad then took a long, flat head screwdriver, placed it under then cable and pushed it upwards/forwards-which released the rear latches and then I pulled the lever and we pushed the seat out!! Hope this helps!

2003 Jeep Liberty Limited Glass Latch will not move on own.

Hello and welcome the problem is very simple to resolve first make sure you have battery power turn off vehicle open rear gate unlock doors go to rear gate and look at lock unlock again and push the Grey plastic lock trigger mechanism forward towards front glass close gate unlock again make sure lock is still in the position you just set it to and close glass it will the lock. Normally what happens in this situation was power was removed from your jeep and the rear gate was opened with no power running to electric lock so it stays in a set position you cannot lock the glass because there was no power in the electric lock I will lock once you reset it Hope this help.
