OBD II Connector identify and location?

If your car is equipped with obd, look under the dashboard for a plug receiver, usually on the driver side.

you need a obd II scan tool/ code reader to read the code. local auto parts may be able to read codes for you.

The OBD II Connector is located left of the steering column, at the bottom of dashboard
just above the E-Brake Pedal.

Look under the dash near where the steering wheel is usually located (on the driver's side).

1996-97 MODELS NOTE: These models require the use of the Toyota's hand held scan tool or an equivalent OBD II compliant scan tool.

1. Prepare the scan tool according to the manufacturers instructions.
2. Connect the OBD II scan tool, to the DLC3 under the instrument panel. The DLC3 on the 1996-97 models is located on the drivers side under the dash
   NOTE: When the diagnosis system is switched from the normal mode to the check mode, it erases all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) and freeze frame data recorded. Before switching modes, always check the DTC and freeze frame data and write them down.
   
3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON and switch the OBD II scan tool switch on.
4. Use the OBD II scan tool to check the DTC and freeze frame data. Write them down.
5. Compare the codes found to the applicable diagnostic code chart. If necessary, refer to the individual component tests in this section. If the component tests are OK, test the wire harness and connectors for shorts, opens and poor connections.

On the 1988 XR7 the Ford diagnostic connector is located under the hood and just ahead of the right front strut tower. It's not the familiar looking OBD-II 16 pin connector but is the Ford style two part connector consisting of one single wire with a female spade type connector and another odd shaped connector with 5 or 6 female spade connectors in it. The typical auto parts store OBD-II reader won't work to read codes on this one, instead you need someone with an older tester to see what is happening and the data available from the system is quite limited also. In 1995 they made different systems. If it has OBD, then it should be the conventional 16 pin connector, found underneath the drivers steering wheel area. If its the older type, then it has a 2 pin black connector under the center console area. Hope that helps

it is regulation/law that it is accessable under the steering wheel side of the car try looking for a cover to the side panel or just behind the trim above the pedal its quite small it will be in that location

How to Replace a Throttle Position Sensor

Procedure:
1. Locate the OBD data link connector (DLC). Refer to your owner’s manual for the specific location.

• Tip: The OBD-I data link connector is usually located in the engine compartment near the battery or the fuse box. The OBD-II connector (post 1995 cars) is usually located beneath the instument panel next to the steering column.

2. Turn your key to the“ON” position. Do not start the engine.

3. Plug your scan tool into the OBD data link connector. Turn on the scan tool and select the appropriate steps to read the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

• Tip: The OBD-II diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a 5 character alphanumeric code. The first digit is a letter that indicates the component group, the second digit is OBD mandated or manufacturer specfic, the third digit is a subgroup, and the fourth and fifth digits define the component and basic problem.
  

• 4. Locate the throttle position sensor.

• 5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the throttle position sensor.

6. Test the resistance of the throttle position sensor (TPS) with a digital multi-meter. If the resistance is out of specifications, the TPS must be replaced.

• 7. Remove the throttle position sensor.

8. Install the new throttle position sensor. Tighten the mounting screws and attach the electrical connector.

• 9. Erase the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) with the scan tool using the“delete” or“erase” command. Road test your vehicle to see if the check engine light returns.

• Tip: If the check engine light returns, repeat the diagnostic process for additional DTCs or take your vehicle to a certified repair shop.
