After my oil change where 5w30 oil was put in engine, there is a tapping noise. i was told that i needed to replace the oil pump and rods because the wrong type of oil was used; it should have been 10w40 type not 5w30.

You didnt state the mileage but I am assuming it s probably at least 100K or close to it. When you switch to a lower thickness oil some parts that are worn usually don't have any affect onthem but in this case it sounds like you are experiencing a valve lifter leak down. Provided that the 5w30 you put in was convemntional oil, just drain the thinner oil out and replace with the 10w 40 you normally put in. Also when you go to oil change places they will put the weight of oil that the manufacturer recomends in the vehicle unless you tell them otherwise so make sureyou tell them to put 10w 40 in when you change your oil. the tapping is a hydraulic part leaking down nothing more. swap the oil and the noise will go away, no need to replace the filter just the oil since it was just replaced.

What causes a tapping noise when the engine is running in a 2002 Saturn L200?

Lifters, push rods and rockers arms. That's what does it. To check lifters. Start the engine and get it up to operating temperature. Put a half quart of transmission fluid in it and let it run. If the tapping goes away, let it run for about 30 minutes. Drain the oil and change the oil filter. Refill it and add some oil treatment first, lucus, slick 50.. what ever you prefer. If the noise doesn't go away. Look at the rocker arms and push rods, they should be polished, replace them as needed, I would still put the additive in.

Tapping noise

blown or clogged oil pump. The tapping noise may be a bearing or lifter, I would not run it until problem is fixed, you could blow a piston rod out the side of your engine. check the oil pump to see if is operating. if not, replace.

Tapping noise - oil pump?

Its possible the oil pump is going bad, but I doubt it would make the noise you describe.
Usually a tapping noise is a valve lifter or a piston connecting rod.
And low oil pressure could cause either, as well as dirt blocking one of the oil passages in the engine block.

Well i have been told i am leaking oil from the front seal and oil pan. second off i was even told that my car sounds like the rod about to go through the crank shaft. it only taps when i run to much .

If the car is run or has been ran to many times or to long with low oil, then the rod problem could very well be true. But rods usually knock at the first start of the engine and then goes away. ( oil pressure builds up). If yours makes the noise after the engine is hot and been running for sometime, I would suspect the lifters tapping. This could be from low oil, from the oil not being changed (low viscosity), Or the engine is just to hot. You will need to listen to the noise the next time it comes up and determine where it is coming from. Top or Bottom. I would try to fix the oil leaks. I would start with the front seal, to see if it is just throwing oil around the oil pan.

04 FORD F150 5.4L TRITON,NOISE IN ENGINE( TAPPING)REPLACED CAM PHASERS & TIMING CHAIN KIT ALREADY A TAPPING NOISE IS STILL PRESENT,PUT MOTORCRAFT OIL FILTER USED CASTRO OIL ADDED LUCAS OIL TREATMENT...

there is also a small valve body you are supposed to replace when replaceing the phasers... also there is a ssm for replacing the valve lash adjusters. alot of time the small engine tick you hear can be a cracked exhaust manifold too so checking those really close is heavily advised because the cracks are really hard to see sometimes. i have seen broken push rods on these engines and they can be a pain to pinpoint where the noise is comming from. hope this helps

Lifters making noise after changing spark plugs and oil (to synthetic oil), previously used 5w30 any help..

spark plugs should not have anything to do with new noise, but the oil probably will. did you put 5w30 in just now? i would not put anything in lighter than 5w30. synthetic oil is not better than regular oil, it just allows you to go longer inbetween oil changes. i would go back to 5w30 and if they are still noisy, try 5w40.

97 explorer engine taps

what this sounds like is that your engine is starving for oil and the tapping noise is yuour rocker arms. this could be due to sludge build up on the intake screen of your oil pump or the pump itself is weak and no longer is providing the needed oil pressure. another place for sludge to build up is the valve covers and until the engine heats up very little oil is circulating to the push rod, rocker arms, and lifters. my suggestion is to clean the valve covers, drop the oil pan and remove the pump to look at the gears to see if there are missing teeth. also clean the screen of the pick up tube. replace the oil filter and put in new oil also use lucas additive this will do a good job of keeping the sludge build up to almost nill. if the problem persists then i would say that one or more of your hydraulic liftyers is weak and then they will need replacing.

IN lite of my coolant leak, a bad pump will somtimes have a tapping noise. At time s at crank up there is a tapping noise but it sounds like its from a rod tapping from lack of oil. Could this be related...

First, change the pump. If it's bad just to protect the engine it has to be done! Second, The noise you hear has to be isolated. A sticking lifter can cause a tapping noise and is more common than rod or other bearing failures. BUT, if you have "cooked" the engine oil from repeated overheats or higher than normal engine temps all bets are off. If you have an oil pressure gauge, what is the oil pressure? Should not be below 15PSpsi running, in or out of gear.(in reality, should be much higher than that!) If too low, then you have a problem. If normal, change oil & filter.
